I am planning to go to WDW in May next year (the last 2 weeks) and was intending to a DIY trip this time as I know I can get hotel and car cheaper but looking at prices of flights direct to Orlando it is around £2000 for 3 of us.

As there are so many combinations does anyone have any advice on whether I am better going for a package or are there some good deals out there I have missed? Do I book early or hang tight and go for a late deal?

I am trying to limit the time the kids are out of school (16yrs and 13 yrs) so am looking to go for 2 weeks but need 1 week of that to be May half term.

Any guidance from experienced visitors would be really appreciated.

Virgin and BA have a really good sale on at the minute but unfortunately it doesnt extend to May. I am planning to go the end of next April, and am going to stick it out to the next sale.

For example, Mar 3 - 17 is £288 pp return, whereas for my dates its £510!!

Travelocity has BA at £483 per adult for the 6th to 20th May, not sure of your actual dates.

The BA website quotes £1,494 for the three of you for the same dates
Virgin do seem to be £660.

Expedia comes up with similar results.

That's only a 5 minute check but you should definitely get 3 adults in May for a good bit less than £2K.

I called BA , and got my flights from dublin for 3 adults for £385 approx each
but this was for June 30th to 21 st July

We've gone the last two Mays, first two weeks, and got them for less than £300 from Manchester with Mytravel. This year was £270 and did drop to about £200 at one point about three weeks before. That's not school hols though so I don't know how useful that is to you.

Hi, I know the pros and cons of schedule over charter but we tend to fly charter. We book our holidays quite a way ahead to make sure we get the dates we want and found the charters to (generally ) be cheaper and more options for flying direct.

It really does pay to shop around - for instance to fly from Birmingham which is about 40 minutes from us was approx £400 dearer for the two of us than flying from Gatwick. That was with the same airline and similar dates.

We got 3 weeks in Sept/Oct for around £1350, which was flights, hotel, car, insurance etc. There was no way I could match or beat that by doing it independently, and the flight is direct.

Happy hunting and enjoy when you are there!

the fact that you want dates within one of the peak times, i.e. a school holiday it will be more expensive.

have you tried Continentals web pages? they have seats on the Virgin aircraft but are normally cheaper. The other option is to go indirect via a US hub. Or as Beep has said, there will be charter flights at that time (they don't fly every day or every month)
Another option is to look at flying out NOT at the weekend, but during the week and then getting a hotle for a few nights

Beep. You could have flown from Gatwick, with ahotel and car parking for a lot less than the £400 its costing you from BHX. :goodvibes

We flew out this year on the 31st May, We're quite lucky here as our DD's have 2 weeks off for the Whitsun holidays, but we did take them out of school for 5 days, we got flights with virgin for 6 of us (4 adults and 2 children) for £2000. We booked last Oct. Good Luck :goodvibes

Thanks so much for all your advice.

I had checked the usual sites expedia, ebookers, opodo and the airlines own sites but hadn't tried travelocity.

I am restricted a bit as my son has SATS in the first week of May but your posts have got me thinking. Maybe I should look at a stopover which I was against but could save quite a bit or look to go a bit earlier. The kids are off school 26 May to 30 May so was trying to include that period to minimise time off school but appreciate the result is higher prices !!

Thanks again. I'm off to do some more searching.

Opodo are currently showing VS27/28 flights for 6th to 20th May for £474.10 per adult. (£1422.30 total at 15:00)

Maybe worth revisiting if you want to fly with Virgin.
