I know it's still early for us to book our airfare, but I'm curious to know how much those in our area pay for airfare to Orlando. We're in Gurnee so are willing to fly from Milwaukee, O'Hare, or Midway airports. There are 4 of us and I'm getting prices of around $800 including taxes, etc. My friend said to hold out for SWA, but I'm nervous b/c the Dings lately have been bad or not on days of our choice (Tues, Wed only). Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Just trying to price and what is a good deal or not. Thanks! :shamrock:

Right now, $200 each, if including taxes, is pretty good. What time of year are you traveling? I used to be able to get ATA for roughly $160-180...but forget that...so yeah, SW does tend to be the cheapest, but like you said, mostly mid-week. I am hoping to get 200 or lower for August, but need a Friday night departure and Sunday return for 4...so will be paying a ton I'm afraid. I will most likely go with SW because of the no penalty perk if we need to cancel/postpone...something to keep in mind when apying over 200 a ticket.
Good luck, and post if you see a deal!

DUH!!!!!!!!!! I see you are going in December....yeah, 200 is very reasonable for that time of year.

Hi, We flew SWA Midway to Orlando round trip non-stop for 115.40 per person which included tax and all fees. This was MDW to MCO on Nov 26, 2005 and MCO to MDW on Dec 4, 2005. These fares were booked in July, 2005. :)

We flew from SW airlines last December from Midway to MCO. For the 6 of us we got an incredible deal and paid just a tad under $700 for all the tickets.

Keep in mind Southwest just announced raising airfare for $10 each way - so getting SW from midway to Orlando I thought a good price $79 or $89 (not with ding) so that was my purchase point - and like some have posted to get the lower Southwest you have to be willing to be flexible, and you have to spend time trying to get that low airfare - but I think $79 $89 each way is a reasonable starting point -BUT now that Southwest said they raised one way flights $10 I'm thinking I have to start looking from $89 - $99 each way so anything under $200 ( round trip including all those pesky taxes etc) will be a "good deal" ? :confused3

We are leaving next wk from Milwaukee on Midwest Airlines. I'm embarrassed to tell how much we spent on airfare. (Last minute planners!) I believe @ $200 is decent, but consider the convenience. Do whatever you can to fly out of Milwaukee! It is so much easier to get through the airport and takes slightly less driving time from Gurnee than O'Hare. Parking is less costly if you don't limo it. Look for coupons on airport web site.

Email me if you need any more perspectives from a neighbor! :thumbsup2

In January I got Airtran out of Midway to MCO for first week of June. Leaving on a saturday for $185 ea total.

Thanks for all the advice!!! Sounds like I should just wait for right now. ;)

Rookie626--I was thinking the same thing. Almost seems worth it just to quick drive to MKE! I'm really considering it, but paying about $600 for airfare, maybe be worth the $200 to save.

Last October, my family of 4 (2ad, 2kids), got a Southwest flight for $460 for all of us including taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We waited for a Ding, and got a great deal. Now, this price is impossible, but if you plan a fall trip, you may get lucky!!!!! Good luck. (We left on a Friday, and came back on a Saturday)

You might want to try AirTran out of Bloomington-Normal. They have direct flights, decent cost and no charge for parking.

Thanks, Bloomington-Normal is about 2 1/2hrs from here so a little far for me. Although I heard that Rockford Airport with Allegiant Air is pretty good--and free parking. Another consideration.

Wow!!!!!! $460?!?! I just priced Midwest Air and we'd have to fly Sat thru Thurs (planned on Sun thru Thurs) and we'd get cheaper airfare. We were considering one more day for extra travel to visit dh's grandma and such. So that may be an option.

Thanks again!!!

We are in the south suburbs so we are alot closer to MDW but we have flown from Midway, O' Hare, Mitchell Field in Milwaukee and Gary Chicago Airport. I don't think that the $ 200.00 each round trip is extreme but it may be possible to spend a little less on SWA or another discount airline. We fly SWA MDW to MCO Easter week and I booked $ 89.00 each way the day the fares came out. The same flights are now $ 259.00 each way. So the time of year that you are flying may make a big differance. All things being equal we look toward convienience, Gary Chicago airport is a small airport with free parking but Hooters Air is currently the only carrier flying ot of there and the prices are decent but not great. SW has had good fares on the above noted trip as well as our 11/05 trip. We avoid O' Hare at just about any cost. We have flown Midwest out of Milwaukee and thought it to be an easy airport to navigate. IMHO if prices are equal or close you are probably better off flying out of Milwaukee it will probably be an easier trip to the airport as well with the road construction in Chicago this summer.

Good luck and good travels,

John

Yes, John, may be worth a little extra money to fly closer from home. Plus we'll be flying the 1st week of December so who knows what the weather will be at that time.

I forgot about that construction - we flew AA last Oct and hated it, they cancelled the flight I booked and placed us on a different flight (I booked early btw!) and it was just a flight. We flew ted (by united) and they seemed to be newer aircraft, and had movies running on the screens - plus free plugs to listen to a select number of stations - now I'm not sure if we just "lucked" out on that flyted flight or not - but it sure helped pass the time with dd - of course we could bring stuff to entertain her if the price is too high on a United flight compared to the others posted here -

Our advantage flying Ohare is we take the train from our town (northwest suburb) stops at Ohare, no parking, no driving!! Same on return flight!! (I'm thinking maybe the Prairie Crossing in Grayslake may be on that route?) :confused3

I know they just started Metra from our area to OHare recently. I just couldn't imagine doing a 1hr train ride with the kids, luggage, backpacks, carseats, etc. Altough it's a great suggestion!!!!

So are all Ted flights like that?? WOW!!
