flight prices closer to trip

The last of our flight points with southwest wont come through until the end of January, we are hoping to travel end of April or beginning of may. Will flight prices continue to go up by then or do they fluctuate like "normal" destinations?

Hmmm, we are leaving May 1st and went ahead and booked since we have 5 but when my husband and I went down alone in June of last year we waited a bit. The prices should come down a bit after the holidays but I wouldn't wait until the last minute, especially if you have several people going (you want there to be enough seats on the plane).

I posted in another thread yesterday about an article in the Wall Street Journal this week about when to buy airline tickets (not specific to Orlando). They looked at a few studies and interviewed travel sites etc. The numbers show that the lowest prices were 57 days prior to departure, although one site, Hopper, said 80 days. They said airlines do not begin to actively manage a specific flight's fares until about three months before departure. They also looked at what days were best to book. Generally the weekends are better since there is no business travel booking, also Tuesdays are good, the worst day is Friday because of business booking. The general advice is to keep checking because they constantly adjust the prices. Orlando obviously is a special case because of school vacations and holidays affecting demand. Hope that helps.

In our situation, which is flying to MCO out of Boston during school vacation, the fares have always gone up after their initial opening fare, always. If you can be flexible about the day and one or more stops that can help. Good luck.
