Flight Price Worries

I've been worrying myself sick about flight prices. I've seen there is another thread regarding flight prices for Oct 2011. We hoping to fly out on the 18th Oct as we are actually getting married at the Wedding Pavilion on the 24th and will be coming back on the 8th Nov. I've waited all this time for the prices to come out and they just seem mad to me. I don't know if I've just been completely naive with what I expected. I had a look on BA and they want over £2500 for 2 people in economy!!

I've seen that some people have said that seats are running out already. I have lots of guests that will need to book flights and can't do so until they have holiday arranged, money etc to do so. I just feel worried sick.

I'm not sure whether to just go ahead and book our flights with Virgin which is currently at the £600pp mark or just to hold on a bit longer (not sure for what, or whether there will even be seats available!?). I'm really sorry for a long rambling post, but I just don't know what to do anymore.

Is the £600 each in Virgin for the same type of flights (economy, same dates etc) as the BA flights which are coming in at £2500? If so I think I would snap the Virgin ones up, especially if i had a wedding booked so knew I had to be there for those dates :goodvibes You never know if the prices will go up and down, but you do know you need to be there then - just book and don't look again!!!!

Sounds like good advice to me. It's not like its a normal holiday so the most important thing is making sure you are there.
Have you looked at the indirect options?
Wayneg is the person to speak to about flights, so maybe have a look at some of his most recent posts and see what advice he offers.
Flight prices have been so unpredicatable recently that it always seems like a gamble as to what price to pay. If I were you I would just pay a price you can afford and leave it at that.
Good luck :goodvibes

£600 each seems to be an ok price nowadays unless you happen to hit a sale.
My flights for the end of September this year were £550.

I think unfortunately those dates hit October half term, so they're going to be pricey. Many people take their kids out of school for one week so either go the week earlier, or come back the week later, which matches your dates.

My flights for April came in at £650 with virgin ... like people have said, it seems like a pretty standard price

Don't know how you got £2,500. Just looked for your dates on BA.com showing me £1,324.60 for 2 adults.

Or the same flights on Opodo
Total price: £ 1,138.60 GBP
Price per adult including taxes and booking fees: £ 569.30 GBP

Indirect from £468.

Personally I would not worry about running out, chances are they will come down but no-one know by how much if at all.

You could also look at playing with dates slightly if you are able to. Obviously the wedding date is set, but does it make a difference if you arrive say a few days earlier than planned, or even a day later than you intended if you feel you can afford to do that and still have enough time before the wedding? Ditto for the return flights, although your November dates don't appear to coincide with any main school/college holidays.

I'd book now as you are going at half term and tied to set dates.

The half term flights were very busy this Oct just gone.

We booked in March for Oct 2010 and to be honest I really struggled to get a flight at an ok price.

We've just booked from Manchester indirect with US aiways and paid just over £500 each. Virgin wanted £1000 more for the 3 of us, so £600 each with Virgin sounds great to me.

Taxes are so high now that the days of cheap flights are gone.

As a previous poster said, you are hitting the half term break in the UK and a lot of us English folk make the most of this week by taking children out of school for if not one, two weeks utilising the half term week. Me included :thumbsup2

October, imo, is the best time to visit WDW, and it seems to be becoming increasingly popular.

Crazy as it may seem I monitored the VA flight prices for about 2 months prior to my 11 month window as having had to cancel our trip last year due to flight prices seeming to increase daily we could simply not justify paying PE prices for Economy seats. 11 month window arrived and like a crazy woman I set my alarm for 4.30am in order to be the first to try claim 6 PE M+M seats. I got them at a price I was happy to pay, and gee was I happy within 10 hours all M+M seats for Premium had gone, and within 24 hours the price had increased by nearly £2k :scared1:

From experience as soon as you see a price you are happy with then book. Once you've booked then you can relax and enjoy the fun part, planning. Good Luck :wizard:

I get the impression October is becoming very popular as families are priced out of the summer months by silly flight prices.

There wasn't a seat to spare on the Virgin flight we were on and on the saturday flight they were bumping passengers off as they had oversold it.

We had the same experience this October: Flight filled to capacity :scared1:

As you stated previously, the taxes are what is knocking everyone now. Looking at our flight breakdown, our taxes are almost equal to the actual fares. My DD's fare was under £250 before tax, but double that as a final total .... go figure :rolleyes1

The way the oil price keeps going up, I would suggest booking earlier rather than later. I work in the oil industry, and we are preparing ourselves for oil prices well over $100/barrel, which will only push up air fares.

I was originally thinking about going to WDW in 2012, but am now thinking 2011 might be a cheaper bet. Trouble is, not sure my son is really ready for everything yet.

I personally think £600 is a fair price for Virgin. Especially for a half term week. Unfortunately with increases in taxes and fuel charges the days for a cheap flight are long since gone. Even if your lucky enough to have enough frequent flyer miles for a "free" flight you still have to pay the taxes which are almost £220 per person.

I know when we were getting married out there i couldnt relax until i knew i had my flights sorted.

Unless there is anything inparticular you think your son would be upset to miss out on i wouldnt worry too much. My cousin was 3 (only just by 1 week) when we went for our wedding and he had a brilliant time. Four years on he still talks about it all the time. Sure he couldnt do somethings but with Disney there is always something for a child to do!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply, really appeciate it :thumbsup2
