Flight of Passage without a FP+

Hello all,

Unfortunately, even though I was ready to book FP+ at 6:50am 60 days prior to my vacation, i was not able to get a Flight of Passage FP+ due to my family only wanting to go to AK on our first day. For a vacation at the end of July for a family of 4, has anyone been able to book a FoP FP+ randomly before their vacation? We are currently 43 days away. If not, when is the best time to wait in line for Flight of Passage besides at Park Closing?

Thanks,

Jenna G.

People still cancel trips; so, look each day and you may get lucky. Don't give up. It will get harder once the 30 day out group starts their FP selections, but keep looking. I was able to improve our selections. I achieved perfection at the two week point.

Not sure if your first day to AK is an early entry day, but that's another opportunity. Getting to the park before the general public can help.

Without FP most people try to go at park opening or closing. If there's a River of Light show then you can try while the show is going on.

Sometimes Disney will extend hours either early or late. Keep looking for hours to change. If they change snap a FP with the new hours.

Those are all the strategies.

If your family is also not willing to get to AK about an hour before opening, then the best time to ride will be wherever you have a couple hours in your plan for the day to wait and ride. There still doesn't seem to be a "down" time for FOP throughout the day.

Are you not wanting to wait until park closing? That’s when you’ll find the shortest lines of the day.

The shortest actual posted wait I saw was in mid-May at 16 minutes. That was about a half hour before the park closed while Rivers of Light was in progress.

We were there the week before last and the waits were a bit longer. We talked to some folks that had waited about 30 minutes but I didn’t try as we were able to secure enough FPs in advance.

Throughout the day the line will always be 2+ hours. I highly recommend going to rope drop, especially if there are EMH in the morning. We did that for a 7am opening a few weeks ago and we were off the ride by 7:07. The down side is we were on the bus at 6:04 am. :headache: But worth it!

We also tried end of the night... it was still about 90 minutes from line entry to walking out, and that was 25 minutes before park closing.

First, :welcome: to DISboards!

Be 60-90 minutes early to rope drop. I know that is a hard thing to do during vacation but those 60-90 minutes will probably be the lowest wait of the day except at park closing. The standby wait grows very quickly at rope drop. And after FoP you will probably be able to walk over to Navi River and ride with a low wait. Then you will have the rest of the day to enjoy AK.

Here is my report on my rope drop FoP ride last August:

And keep checking for FP's as cancellations do occur.
Wishing you a pixiedust: visit!

Keep checking as they do become available as people cancel. Especially 2-4 weeks before or the day before.
Otherwise, Rope Drop to FoP or wait till the end of the day and the line tends to be shorter.
Good luck!

If EMH am available and you are eligible ropedrop that morning. If no EMH still rope drop, if there is am EMH but you are not eleigble then wait til end of night. We waited 87 minutes on a Sunday night (line around 9pm with 1030 close). Waited 55 minutes on EMH morning when we got there right at EMH start (those that got there earlier had 30-40 minute wait or less). It's worth the wait!

Oh and don't freek out at size of outside line of FoP at RD!! We were nearly to bathrooms at FotLK all way across bridge on our EMH morning- the line looks ridiculously long but once they open the ride and people start walking through inside queue it will continuously move until you are on ride (55 minutes for us). A wait line like that during day when all inside queue is full and FP are running will be a five hour wait. Huge difference when you get there early!!

Another opportunity is during rain and after rain, keep your eye out for same day FPs on those days. Or just throw on your ponchos and walk in as others walk out of the park.

We rode it twice in one day one with a fast pass and the other without but we did what you probably don't want to do go neat closing. We went back to look at Pandora in the dark and the phone app said it was a 120+ minute wait but was walked over anyways and it was a posted 90 minute wait but the 8 year old said she could do it so we got in line. The actual line was about 43 minutes but she got her 2nd ride.

Nice to see you got your fastpass in the end.
I hit 60 days yesterday and for us at Midday (in the UK) the first of our Animal Kingdom days was fully booked as well.
Luckily we had another day planned at day 13 of our trip and managed to get one no problem.
Have to admit I thought could only book 10 days of the trip on fast pass(60 +10) but able to book the full two weeks of our stay there.

We found the best time to ride without a FP was to get in line about 10 minutes before park closing. The actual wait time was about half of what was posted (posted at 90 minutes and we waited for about 45 minutes). I've seen other posters say the same thing. I think they inflate the wait times at the end of the night to discourage people from getting in line.
