Flight of Passage... Motion Sickness??

Flights of Passage was ok with me for motion sickness, but not perfect. I am prone to motion sickness and claustrophobia. Actually the claustrophobia was at first more of the issue (Star Tours also I'm not fond of for the room concept) I had to talk myself through it that it would be fine it's just a ride, when I noticed it's a room, and then that the seat back went up and I felt locked in and I don't like that. I didn't know what I expected, but I didn't know exactly what to expect since I didn't read about ride specifics before. The screen effects were amazing though.

Anyway, as far as motion sickness goes, the parts that only bothered me during the ride were looking over to my side and seeing everyone else on the ride in what I suppose is another room, the dragon part of the ride where some orange looking banshee/dragon type is attacking, and then swooping in between branches on trees. I like the free fall feeling actually like into the valley, or over the ocean. Star Tours gets to me, I still ride it, but it usual makes me not feel right after. This last visit, I was done with rides for the afternoon after going on Rockin Rollercoaster and then Star Tours, felt badly afterward. Star Tours was really warm in there, too. Not a good combo for me.

How much does the ride vehicle move? Motion sickness for me comes more from the vehicle than the movie - I can always close my eyes if the movie is too much. I also read somewhere that the whole floor moves? Is that true?

It did make me queasy. This is the first time in a long that a ride has bothered me. I really am unsure as to why it did. Nothing else did. That being said, it was magnificent and totally worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I'm finding it fascinating how the same rides affect people in such different ways. I have absolutely no problems with Star Tours but can't do Soarin' while others have the opposite reaction. I wonder if for me it has to do with being in a more darkened environment. I may even try Soarin' again and close my eyes during the swoops.

I can do Soarin no problem. Star Tours is bad. Tower of Terror gives me the dry heaves and last time I rode it went literally green. FOP was somewhere in the middle for me. I was glad I rode it, did breathing throughout, was equally glad when it was over. That said I am not in a hurry to ride it again.

Did the dramimine help? I'm thinking of giving DD some before she rides this ride.
It doesn't help me much. I take it before most park days to help, but I still can't do most simulator type rides. I really wanted to do FOP, but I just didn't want to feel icky the rest of the day.

It does move, but I can't recall if the whole floor moved. With the glasses and mainly looking at the screen, I just didn't notice it. I did notice tilting of course, and maybe it's similar to a Star Wars concept of a whole floor move, but the thing is you're on your own individual bikes within the room, so as your watching the screen, it has the illusion of it just being you. It's why I'm guessing on the bike you sit forward and hold the bar and the small seat back comes up. This is just how it felt for me, certainly others will have their own experience! Honestly, Star Tours with the light speed thing and jolting bumpiness thing is way worse for me.

I love the feeling that riding ToT gives you. Soarin' makes me a LITTLE queasy, but the ride is breathtaking enough to make up for it. Star Tours had me a little green - I probably wouldn't ride that one again. And Mission Space got to me - although it was more claustrophobia than anything.

With that as background, I will say that FoP equated with Soarin' in terms of motion sickness. When the banshee went straight down I absolutely LOVED it - just like ToT. But went it went down and also turned some I felt a little uneasy. But even with that I will unequivocally say that FoP is the greatest ride I have even been on. It is difficult to describe the majesty of this ride - a production unlike any other. For me it is without a doubt the greatest attraction in any of the 4 parks at WDW. Go on it - it's a MUST!!

The motion is more similar to soarin, and fop doesn't have the warm stagnant air issue that Star tours has.

Omg. Yes. The air in ST. I seriously think that's what makes me so sick!

I'm hopeful I can do fop. Soarin doesn't bother me at all, I even rode it pregnant last time and was fine. I hate ST though. Definitely taking bonine the night before and morning of!

I have a friend that just went on it and she hated it. She didn't like the drop feeling at all. I guess it has a lot of do with motion that she didn't like.

Thanks everybody for your insight!! It's helpful!

Hello all. A little off topic ride wise, but I don't do the VR rides because I don't want to get motion sickness. My daughter really wants to do Star Tours (and probably FoP) and I was wondering if I close my eyes during the ride will it solve the motion sickness problem? Thanks!

If you dont mind spoiling if for yourself, go onto youtube there are a bunch of videos that show you how much the floor moves.

Omg I was so sick on this ride. If you get motion sickness, take a Dramamine. I was still sick in the morning. I was extremely miserable. The ride itself was amazing. However if you don't like puking, take meds or do NOT ride this ride
