We are catching a flight in edmonton and it is straight to Lax airport, i have never flown before, and also my family( hubby kids) so i was told to get to the airport 2 hours before flight leaves, so where do i go and what do i do lol. I have never been in teh airport either.
So i know i have to do customs and security but when and where and anything else you can tell me lol.
Flight on the way back is no stops either, is it the same procedures as going?
Thanks

What airline are you flying with and I can probably give you an idea of where to go.

Print off your tickets from home 24 hours before your flight (this means you are checked in). When you get to the airport go to the WestJet ticket area (departures level) and do the baggage check in (if you have baggage). Then proceed through the security/customs points and wait at your gate.

Coming back you will go to the WestJet counter at the airport and check in, get your ticket and check your bags. Then you will proceed through security to your gate. When you arrive home you will clear customs.

Not to worry as there are lots of signs in the airport to help you know where the heck you are going. And if that fails there are tons of staff people in the airport who can make sure you get to the right place.

Have a great trip!

I'll try this again -- I typed a whole reply and it disappeared...

I haven't flown Westjet to the states for a while so I'm going off memory here so you should probably go to the Edmonton Airport website and double check. There's tons of good info there including what you can have in your carry ons etc.

Basically, if you are driving to the airport the shuttle from the parking lot will drop you off at the departure level. If you take a taxi or get a ride directions to the departure level are well marked. Westjet is one of the first stops.

Yes, you should be there at least 2 hours early depending on the time of day. Security can get quite long lines. When you get to the departure level, go the Westjet desk, check in. You'll get a gate number for departure. From there you'll take your luggage and go to the US customs / pre screening. It's at the opposite end of the departure level. You'll get a form to fill out for entering the states. Take that, your luggage and your passports and go through the lines. It's relatively painless and be quick depending on how many people are ahead of you.

In LA you just have to pick up your luggage when you arrive.

On the way back, check in with Westjet, get your gate number, go through security and wait at your gate. When you land in Edmonton you'll go through Canadian Customs. You'll get forms to fill out on the flight back. Take those and your passports and follow the people in front of you.

thanks everyone. The airports seem so huge and i thought that i will get lost.
I love the fact that i can do a web check in 24 hours before so i will print those before i drive to edmonton . As long as there are signs and a lot of people to ask i think i will be okay lol

I believe you have to take your (tagged) luggage through US Customs in case they want to look through your bags. Once through Customs you'll put your checked luggage on a conveyor, then go on to your gate. At least United works like this.

That is how it works in Calgary also. You have to go to the flight counter first and get your tags and boarding passes. Then you clear customs with your luggage put it on the belt and find your gate.:thumbsup2

We have our own and dh just slides his business card into the plastic sleeve. The airline will also provide you tags. It is just easier to have your own so you don't have to fill them out at the airport:thumbsup2

You will love DL:love: Enjoy every moment...even the bumpy ones and all will go great!

Thank you drag n' fly, i will keep my eyes out for some cute luggage tags, i found some from online disney but shipping is to outrageous lol.
