I've noticed a few brides mention in their newsletters and what not, about getting discount flights through certain air lines. Can I ask how you organised this? Obviously it's to do with group bookings? Did you just approach the airline? Or did you go through a travel agent?

What sort of information do I need to go to them with? Do all the flights need to be booked at the same time?

What else should I know about it?
Thanks.

I called all major airlines and found that their version of a "discount" wasn't a discount at all, but a way for us to reserve a large group of tickets and have our party seated together. (Big whoopee doo..show me the $$$). The party had to all fly in the same flight (which is very hard to do). Finally, I called American Airlines and they were the only ones who actually offered 10% off their fares for the week before and after the wedding. They gave me a special code, and even sent me inserts to put into invitations. I recently passed them out at my bridal shower.

While this discount is good, and by far the most generous I could find....let's take into account that this airline also is one of the first to charge for checked baggage, which might cancel out any savings you receive.

Hope this helps. I have some travel tips and info listed in my wedding blog...just click on the link in my signature.

I sent my guests an email full of tips for traveling to WDW, including a part about getting low airfares. Also, since our wedding was on a Monday, it enabled our guests to travel from Saturday to Tuesday - two of the cheaper days of the week to fly (Tuesday and Wednesday being the cheapest).

Here's part of my email:

http://www.FareCompare.com gives you an idea of the cheapest airfares available from your city and features great articles full of tips on buying cheap airfare, like this one: http://www.farecompare.com/articles/best-time-to-buy/best_time_to_buy_cheap_airfare.html

http://www.BookingBuddy.com allows you to enter your trip dates once and then search all the different airline sites without typing in the dates each time. A good one to check this way is http://www.kayak.com.

If you know exactly which flight you want, http://www.yapta.com will let you track it as the price fluctuates and notify you when it goes below the threshold you specify. If you have already bought your ticket, Yapta will let you know if the price goes down so you can try to get the difference refunded.
