Flight change refund?

I posted this on the transportation board, but perhaps somebody here might have some answers as well.

Maybe somebody here can help me out. I booked a flight last week on Orbitz with Delta. Well now my boyfriend has just found out that he will be able to come to Florida as well! So I would like to be able to change my flight so that we can fly together. Is this doable? Or am I going to get slammed with a bunch of extra charges?

Probably. I would consider just flying separately if he can't match your schedule.

If the fare for the new flights is the same as what you paid, then you would just pay the change fee. However, if the new fare is higher, then you would pay the change fee plus any difference in fare.

Why not buy him the same flight that you are already booked on but from the airline directly?
