DH will have a colonoscopy soon and has the choice of either. I know the Fleets is a lot LESS liquid, but are there any negatives to this or positives to the other??

I haven't used them BBB, but Nulytely is a prescription item and Fleet you can buy right off the shelf, if I remember correctly. There might be a big price difference. Nulytely and golytely, based only on customer reports (I'm not a doctor by any stretch) might be a little less...umm...explosive? Spontaneously combustive? Something like that. :teeth:

Having had two colonoscopies in the past four years (and trust me, they are a lot less a pain than people tend to make them out to be; ask anyone their honest opinion who has had one) I would suggest the Nulytely/Golytely mix. It helps to keep you hydrated, simply because of the volume of liquid. And it is gentle. The toughest part of the Nulytely/Golytely mix is simply the volume of liquid, it is a lot, but not a problem. My best to your husband during his test and the results.

Actually. the Fleets Phosphosoda (which is about 8 oz) is much easier to use, volume wise, than Go-Lytley (1 gallon)We use both, probably equally, as GI preps on my floor. I don't notice the GI upsets with the Fleets that I see with the other. The nausea/vomiting that comes with Go-Lytley for a LOT of people is not a problem when drinking the Fleets.
Both taste equally bad and they seem to do a comparable job of cleaning out the colon.

Personally, I'd drink the Fleets. Too much volume with the Go-Lytley for me.

BTW--everyone tells me the prep is the wprst part of the whole thing. The procedure is a piece of cake after the prep!
Good luck to your DH

I've used both (two colonoscopies) and I prefer the Fleets Phosphosoda as prep.

i used the Fleets as well. Totally agree that the prep is the worst part !!!! I had a great doctor, and the whole procedure was over before I knew it with no discomfort at all.

Thanks guys! It is just a routine test since he turned 40 and there is some family history. I will have to have one in the not too distant future also  ! I guess I will advise the Fleets for him. I just don't want to be wrong or I will never hear the end of it :smooth: !

BBB:

I had a colonoscopy a few months ago and I did the Fleets Phospho-soda. Soda huh? Not quite. LOL :p

But it did the job well and while it does indeed clean you out, I had absolutely no stomach cramps in the process. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and believe me, I know what stomach/intestinal cramps are like.

The Phospho-soda IS a very small amount of liquid, and I was told I could mix it with clear juices to help with the taste. In all honesty, it was pretty gross, not so much the taste as the weird sensation I felt on my tongue and in my mouth. But once that was over, it was fine. You're allowed to drink as much clear liquids as you want, up till the morning of the procedure. Be sure your DH follows the directions EXACTLY, as prescribed by his doctor. A friend of mine works at a center where they do these procedures all the time and many times the patient is not properly "cleaned out" due to not following the directions exactly.

Like Dan said, this was not bad in the least. The worst part is choking down the Phospho-soda. It was painless and over pretty quickly, and you are sedated. I dozed, but I was nosey and watching the procedure on the screen in the room there, so I stayed away through a lot of it, asking questions. lol But many people have said they slept through the entire thing. Once it was over, I felt 100% fine :) I would not hesitate to have this procedure done in the future, if needed.

Good luck to your DH! :)

I would use the Phoshosoda if it were me... I did not have that choice..I did the gallon thing.. OMG... it was not pleasant.. I could only get 2/3 of it in... then I started getting sick in the sink.. I could not get it down...so between running to the bathroom and vomiting in the sink.. LOLOLOL.. it was a show.. thank God I was alone.. if I do it again.. I am doing the little bottle of soda and that is it..

I have family history as well- maternal grandfather died at 40 of colorectal cancer, and my older sister had a large growth removed along with part of her colon 2 years ago. If you have family history of this and your dr. doesn't suggest having the procedure, really push for it. My sister didn't have it done because her dr. told her it wasn't necessary at her age, and instead of having a colonoscopy which would have revealed polyps that could have been easily removed she had to have emergency surgery. No one should be afraid to have this done!

DH's paternal uncle died of colon cancer, so I MADE him request this from his Dr. My Dad has Polps removed everytime he has the colonoscopy, so I know my time is near to have it too:rolleyes: ! I have had the sigmoidoscopy twice:o
It will be Fleets for DH on Thursday!
Thanks everyone:D !

Fleets, no question about it. I have done both. The Fleets is easier to get down simply because of the volume. The other also made me feel cold all over. Was not a great feeling. Like others have said, the prep is the worst part of the whole thing. Good luck to DH

I was told to mix the Fleets with Ginger Ale. While I wouldn't say it tasted wonderful, it was tolerable enough.
