Ok... I get the syringes at work (the bonus of being an RN) but many stores have children's suspension dosing droppers that would work just as well, but if anyone needs pm me and I will mail you a syringe

thats super sweet.. I think most pharmacies have those little syringes for medicine and they usually give them for free or a minimal charge.

I also use Revolution for my dog. This is a once a month treatment for flea, tick, mites, and also heartworm prevention and I think it's great. I purchase a one year supply from my vet for about $160.00. It's a bit pricey, but Revolution has strong guarantees if your animal is ever infected with heartworm while using their product. Supposedly, they'll take care of all your pet's medical expenses for heartworm treatment which I hear is extremely expensive. The catch is...you need to have documented evidence that their product was purchased through your vet. I guess the guarantee is void if purchasing through various websites or the 1-800 thing because supposedly some of those places have a history of selling expired or tainted products. I don't know how true all of this is, but I do know that you need to purchase from your vet for them to back you up. All in all it's really pricey preventative treatment, but I guess keeping our furry loved ones healthy is worth it.

I had been purchasing Frontline online but am switching to Revolution with a new addition. At our 12 week checkup yesterday, vet mentioned that the website I used to order had called to verify prescription. He said check with Dad (his father runs the front desk) and see if we beat them. Sure enough, the vet was cheaper, even using coupons for the online site.

Vet: $68 for 6 months supply PLUS a free dose
Online: $85 for 6 months (had $10 coupon)

I'm glad cause I would much rather support my vet if possible since he is so reasonable on the price of his services.

We've never had a problem before and now have this monster problem. Vet said never order from there - don't worry, I won't be. Hopefully the new Frontline we got from the vet will work. Totally not worth saving ten or twenty bucks at the time.

I'm sorry this is not correct. If you buy your heartworm pills from any unauthorized dealer, which 1800petmeds is, the company will NOT cover heartworm expenses. 1800petmeds will also NOT pay for heartworm treatment. You will get run around after run around and the end result is going to be no sorry you're on your own. I personally wouldn't take this chance to start with, since the point of treating a dog for heartworms is finding a fine line between killing the worms in the dog’s heart, and not the dog. To me it's worth the extra few dollars. If your vet is outrageously overpriced, maybe it's time to shop around for a new vet. Mine offers these flea and heartworm meds for just a couple of dollars over what other cheaper internet companies do. To me it is worth the slight extra expense.

The way companies like pet meds express get their meds is a veterinarian, many are US located, legally buy the medicine from their distributers in a very high volume. They often improperly store it until it is shipped to pet meds and other companies, which they then receive a hefty kickback. Some of these vets are caught after many months of doing this, while others slip through the cracks. Pet meds cannot order heartworm preventative and other flea products that have not gone over the counter. They have to get them through licensed veterinarians. These are vets that obviously are in it for money only and will not store or take care of their supply like they should. The company that makes these drugs knows this and so they will not extend their product guarantee to people who purchase from such sites.

Now that frontline and advantage has gone over the counter they can legally buy these meds. Other prescription meds they cannot. They are being bootlegged by money hungry doctors.

Don't put big dog frontline on your cat. You are buying a tube that is to hold a certain amount of meds if applied fully. If you are just taking out a portion then that portion can contain all or none of the meds or anywhere in-between. Many cats are fine, but many more cats have had an adverse reaction to people doing this. I have to wonder how the RN that is helping people do this would feel if I bought my child's polio or other vaccine from an internet company that claimed the vaccines were from US sources and doctors and just dosed her myself? I mean I am trained on how to give an injection and all, shouldn't that be a perk for me? Just because something works for one person doesn't mean everyone should do it. I would think a member of the human medical community would know better.

I have seen in my 12 years as a veterinary technician at least 10 cats a year come in to use having seizures and other neurologic symptoms from frontline applied incorrectly. I can't count the number of cats that come in from people using cat approved hartz or other cheaper brands, please stay away from them altogether.


If you are worried about price, then ask your vet what they reccomend that could save you some money.

If I could give one more example of how easy it is to be tricked into buying unsafe flea and heartworm meds. I could put an ad on craigslist or ebay and sell the 6 boxes of complimentary frontline and heartguard I have. The heartguard would have to be on craigslist since ebay will not let you sell this type of med on their site, thankfully. I received these from our vendor at my job. It's a veterinary practice, so it's safe right? I could tell you how I'm a vet tech and sound so intelligent and sweet. All I want to do is help someone out by offering what I have at a lower cost. I could insist you show proof to me that your dog has been recently heartworm tested. You feel like you're getting a good deal, I work at a vet's office so the meds are safe, right? Nope, I found these boxes while cleaning out my car. I've been driving around all summer with these meds in my car that has hit temperatures over 180 degrees at times inside. These meds are worthless and you just paid me money to help clean out my car of something I should have thrown away. In reality that's what I did, toss them. Sadly many people would see an ad like that and think woo hoo it's my lucky day. Maybe for them but not for their pet.

He said he's been having a lot of people come in this summer who are longtime Frontline and users complaining of serious flea problems (us among them, which is how it came up). Just like anything else, the bugs eventually develop resistance and that's starting to happen already with the popular treatments.

We've switched to an herbal shampoo for our dog, along with garlic supplements and an insect growth regulator treatment on the lawn, and that seems to have done the trick.

I can only speak for myself but I have used Frontline Plus from Drugstore.com and it has kept my dogs flea and tick free for the two years I used it from them.

Thanks - I really don't know what to believe at this point. Our vet, who is right from China, was saying people who use the mailorder sometime get the Frontline, etc, from China and it doesn't work. A person in PetSmart also made a comment about buying online/over the phone when I was looking for a flea comb. It might be one of those things that isn't really true, but I have it stuck in my head, and I'll be buying from my vet from now on.

We treated the lawn, and sprayed everywhere outside. We also used Knockout E.S. spray by Virbac that the vet gave us - no idea if that is working or not. We've been vacuming, and yesterday I still found two fleas on her when I was combing her.

She was at the vet twice last week (in my panicky state) and he said give it time to work. I'm not sure how long to give it before I decide the Frontline isn't working either.

I would like to restate a couple things Jey12 posted earlier:

First, manufacturers DO NOT guarantee products purchased from unapproved sources. If your Heartgard from PetMeds fails, and Heartgard does occasionally fail, you have to deal with PetMeds Merial will not provide treatment.

Second, PLEASE do not use dog flea and tick products on your cat, EVER. Can I state that any more clearly? I have seen countless reactions and several deaths due to this. I have even seen reactions to OTC products, like Sergeants and Hartz. Always be careful with organophosphate pesticides on cats.

I've learned a lesson - thankfully this will (hopefully) go away. I realize she'll have to have it once a month to get the cycle broken, I just hope they lessen and she's not as uncomfortable. The worst part is she's always had her Frontline Plus once a month. That's why I wasn't sure if it was bogus Frontline Plus (the last three months) or resistant fleas.

Revolution is a tube and is applied like you do frontline. Personally it's my preferred product for cats. No one really wants to give their cat a pill.

There is many a day I think I miss the days of being a technician. It's a noble, underpaid, underappreciated profession and a good technician is worth their weight in gold

1800petmeds is where we got 6 months worth and it was about half the price of Petco.

Plus if you look online sometimes you can find coupon codes for free shipping or a discount.

You should not need vet approval- it's over the counter.

I HIGHLY recommend that you get it from your vet. A couple of months ago I was at our vets office and we were delayed. The delay was because a family who had applied flea treatments to 3 of their dogs were rushed in. The dogs all experienced seizures because the owners had applied a flea treatment meant for a larger dog.
All because they wanted to save a few $$ but ended up spending more $$ because now they had to pay a vet bill too. Plus they were unsure if the dogs would have ongoing seizure problems because of this.

** one tip I would like to share*** put mothballs in your sweeper. As you vacuum the fleas/flea eggs collected in the vacuum will die if you use the mothball method.

I went to the vet today and paid $16 dollars for frontline plus for my puppy and $15.50 for my cat...this is for one stinkin' month. Is there better prices on this out there and if so where do you get yours? Thanks.
