Has anyone ever taken Flat Stanley to WDW?
I just got a call from my SIL in NJ and she asked if I would be interested in helping my nephew with his class project. Evidently, the kids make this paper boy named "Flat Stanley". They mail him to different people who take pictures of him around where they live and mail him back with a story of what he did while he was visiting. Since I am going to NJ for Thanksgiving, I decided to pick up Stanley while I'm there and then take him with me back to FL. I plan on taking him to the beach, perhaps for a swim in my pool (I'll do my best to keep him dry) and then bring him to WDW when I go for my birthday.

Any ideas for some fun pictures would be greatly appreciated.

My mom took Flat Stanley to WDW for my niece when she was in elementary school. She took him to Epcot and put him in all the countries.

I was JUST going to suggest this - around the "world" with Flat Stanley.

It's alwasy SOO funny when they take the picture really close to the object and different things in the background - ie. Walt holding "Stanley's" hand - Stanley on Splash Mountain - at Haunted Mansion, etc.

We took Flat Stanley with us to WDW and we had a BLAST with him!

Get him laminated so you don't have to worry about him getting wet!

I couldn't BELIEVE how many people knew who Flat Stanley was! It was hilarious to get pictures of him with characters....they all knew who he was and did funny poses with him.

I just put him in my bag and we took pictures of him at every enterance gate and all over Epcot. I even have a funny picture of him with me on RNR and one of Cinderella giving him a kiss! Flat Stanley is a riot
and he loves WDW! :rotfl:

When my son sent Flat Stanley to visit his aunt Stanley was taken all over WDW. He even ended up with his own photo album and autograph book. Just use your imagination and Stanley can go anywhere. Enjoy.

Thanks all for the great ideas. Glad to know others have done this. I was so excited to be asked to be a part of my nephew's project. That's the hard part about living 1200 miles away from family. I miss the kids. :guilty:

If anyone has any pictures, I'd love to see them! :lovestruc

My dd just brought Flat Stanley home last week!!! I sent him to a friend in Chicago. I wish I would've thought of WDW!! My SIL is going next week-but Stanley won't be back from Chicago yet. Oh well, maybe when my ds is in 2cnd grade, we'll bring Stanley to the World!!

I love the Flat Stanley Project! I did this project during my student teaching 7 years ago and the kids LOVED it! I have also done it with my sixth-graders, and they love it just as much!

One website that i might suggest is www.flatstanley.com. There are many pictures there of "Stanleys" all over the world! There have even been "Stanleys" in space!

One suggestion that I might make is to send back small souveniers with your Stanley after his vacation. Another thing you might do is make him some "vacation clothes" for his trip! (Like a WDW t-shirt and bermuda shorts!)

Have fun! :teacher:

I actually took a flat Stanley on a cruise with me. It was a few years ago, a woman on the DIS was a teacher in scotland and I volunteered to take one from a child in her class.

Here he is - these were pre digital camera so they will be fuzzy

I love Flat Stanley and love all of the teaching opportunities he affords.

But in all my years, I've never seen Flat Stanley drinking a Corona and smoking a cigar!

You have made my day!!!!

I'll definitely make the clothes, maybe even Mickey Ears. :earsboy:
Love the idea about the souvenirs. Maybe I can find a little something for each of the kids in the class.

Thanks! :goodvibes

AuntPatti - Is your SIL in Northern NJ, say the Rivervale area, I got a very similar phone call on Monday from my SIL and we are taking my nephews flat stanley with us to WDW for 10 days, we will see her on Thanksgiving, but she wants pictures of him packing and on the plane, so she is mailing him to us. When I saw the tile of the thread, I couldn't believe it.

"It's a small world!" pic22. Not too far from Rivervale. Paramus. :goodvibes

When my niece's Flat Stanley came to visit us, I actually wrote a story to go along with the pictures and made a little book to go along with him on the rest of his trip.
If you read the book, most of the things that happen to him happen because he is flat, so it's fun to think of things that he would not be able to do/could not happen if he was not flat.
My nieces' Flat Stanley was coloring Disney pictures torn out of a coloring book with my DD. Because he is flat, he ended up being gathered in the papers and put in the drawer overnight when she cleaned up (several posed pictures of that). When he woke up in the morning, he had managed to slide one of his feet out of the drawer and get someone's attention. But, she was not speaking English and he was afraid he had gotten mailed to a foreign country (she was a Russian student who lived with us - Flat Stanley had not met her yet).
We didn't go anywhere really exciting, like WDW, but he did go visit Mall of America with us.
