dtuleya (Denise),

I am so excited!!! Andy, Flat Stanley, and I just got home from a field trip...here are the details.

For folks who follow NASCAR this is old news, but this Sunday is the Golden Corral 500 and many of the drivers are already in town. We were given last minutes tickets to attend a media luncheon (nope, neither of us is in media...). The keynote speaker was Tony Stewart (DH's favorite driver) and we'd hoped to get an opportunity to get autographs and/or pixs. Well, the food was shi-shi, the Q&A was great, but Tony was wisked in and out. Shucks...on to plan B.

After work, we headed to the McDonough Home Depot, where Tony was making an autograph appearance from 6-8pm. When we arrived (5:45), the line was down and around to the back of the store. We got our wristband, got in line and started making friends with the folks around us.... After almost 2hrs (in 3-inch heels)...we were entering the store. One of the last group to be admitted. Then, before we knew it...we were at the front of the line. We'd already been told...one autographed item per person...pixs are fine, but no posing. With the hundreds of folks that he saw, this seemed reasonable, but I had to ask. "Excuse me, may I prop Flat Stanley up and take your pix while you sign?" Imagine my surprise when Tony stopped writing, looked up and smiled. As I started to launch into my "Flat Stanley is a school project...." speech, Tony spoke..."No problem, I'll be glad to hold him. We get alot of Flat Stanleys." He knew about Flat Stanley and was happy to help out!!! WOW! Of all the responses, this was not one that I had even considered. Not only did he hold FS (by the hands, no less), but he stopped signing autographs and smiled into the camera. I think that I'm one of the few folks who didn't have to take a picture while he was signing (ie...getting the top of his head :)).

So, Denise, please let your son know that while we'll still get a picture of FS with the ferrets, we DID get a picture of FS with Tony Stewart. We also got a picture of FS with a Busch driver AND a picture of FS "leaning" against the window net of Tony's car. How cool!!!! Not just for FS, but for my hubby and me too! Denise, thank you for letting us host FS. He's welcome to visit anytime. ::yes::

Ginny --

How absolutely cool! :cool1: It was so nice of you to take Flat Stanley along! Heels for two hours????? I hope DH rubbed your feet for you after that!

I think we'll be routing for Tony Stewart from now on! What a great guy! Flat Stanley sure is lucky! He's getting to meet all kinds of wonderful people, experiencing such great things and traveling to wonderful parts of our country!

Thanks Ginny for taking all the great pixs and hosting Flat Stanley!:hug::hug:

That is really cool! Say, when is Flat Stanley head to the Great NorthWest?

Lori

Lori,

You're on the list after Laurie (sweetpea) and Michelle (Belle). He's got alot of traveling to do before the end of May!

I had a good chuckle when I saw this post, we brought Flat Stanley on our Fla trip 2yrs ago for our DS. I made this photo for him to hand to his teacher "just for a laugh" along with his normal pictures. I just had to share

Hope you all enjoy the pics ..... Andy

Too cool! Thanks so much for posting the pictures! I showed them to Grant and he said, "Hey, who's that guy holding my Flat Stanley." Can you tell he's not a Nascar fan. After I explained to him that it was Tony Stewart, a famous race car driver he said, "Oh neat! Wait until the kids at school see them!" (the pictures) This has turned out to be such a great geography lesson for the kids. Thanks again!

J & D - I ended up printing out those pictures to put in FS scrapbook. We still get such a laugh out of them. I think my favorite is FS meeting Flat George, George and Barbara. After we all meet up in Hershey we plan to take FS to see the White House. That'll go great with pictures you and your husband took! I know school will be out by then but it'll be a good way to end the scrapbook.

Denise - Laurie said to have Grant's FS mailed to me and then when we are done with him we'll mail him to her. I think he'll have a great time in TN and he'll get to meet Nathan's FS. We'll be one big happy family!

Nathan's FS will get mailed off as soon as we get back from TN. Looks like he'll only be able to make just one more trip before school is out. He's had lots of fun though!!

Michelle,

Sounds good to me. I'm having as much fun with this project as Grant is! I forgot to ask you are you visiting someone or just going to soak in the mountain air? Hope you have a great time!
