DH and I just purchased a flat screen LCD TV. Last night we were trying to figure out where to put it. We don't want to start with the wall mount just yet, we want to see how it looks in a couple places before committing.

Our question is......where does the cable box/dvr thing go? It seems that all the wall mounted TV's we've seen are kinda free standing. Please don't tell me I have to surrender my dvr in the family room.

TIA:goodvibes

If you are going to have the TV on a tabletop there is usually room in front of the legs or on a shelf under the TV stand. If it is wall mount you just need it close by. This could be on a shelf below the TV or on a surface near by.

I have set up a couple of home theaters where the DVR, receiver, DVD player, ROKU box, or whatever was hidden in a cabinet or in a closet close by. The wires were fished through the wall and I set up an RF remote so the electronics could be controlled without needing a line of sight for the RF remote.

Ohhhh, I get it now. I need one of those RF things. My concern was the line of site to the cable box....what is RF LOL

Once we decide on where the heck to mount this monstrosity, we will have the wires concealed as well.

RF = Radio Frequency. Here is an example of what you are looking for. I recommend one that is programmable via the computer. Just make sure the devices you want to control with it are listed as compatible.

Or flat screen is over our fireplace (1930's house) and we have a door that separates where the TV is and the entertainment unit is, so we fished the wires down the wall, through the basement ceiling and back up the wall to the bookcase for the cable, TIVO, and sound system.

DH had to wire up an outlet for the TV in the wall and ran a bunch of monster cables for the entertainment stuff. It took the better part of a day to get everything run though.

We have a 1940's house and I'm scared of the work ahead....why did they have to make everything so solid back then :rotfl2:

FireDancer Thanks for that link I'm more confused than ever :lmao: but I'll get, just have to let it sink in a bit.

I hear you! Cutting through gypsum board and plaster is no fun but if you do opt to mount it on the wall, once you get the wall bracket up it with anchors it won't go anywhere!
I hate hanging pics because we have to drill holes with a masonry bit. Good times! Good times!

here's what the old TV looks like on the wall. We bought a new one this year that's slightly taller. It will give you an idea of what it looks like.
