Flat Iron Advice

Okay, so for years I've put off buying an expensive flat iron, but after a trip to the salon yesterday, I am finally caving in. Before I take the plunge and buy a pricier flat iron, I want to make sure I get the best one.

I've read good things about CHI and Sedu. How do you feel about either of those? Are there others I should be looking at? I have really thick and wavy hair - in case that makes a difference.

Well my mom works in a salon, and Chi irons were all the rage for awhile...but apparently they don't have much staying power, my burned up 2 of them before she moved on to another one. The current recommendation from all the stylists there is BabyBliss. I have one and it is GREAT. It has different temperature settings and gets REALLY hot, even on the lowest settings. I've had it for over a year and not had one problem with it yet.

I am not impressed with the CHI or the GHD, I recently bought a croc on overstock.com for $90 and I LOVE it. My chi only went to 390 degrees, but croc goes to 450 degrees and it makes all the difference in the world with my hair, I do use a thermal protectant spray on recommendation of my stylist.

I LOVE my Chi. I was like you, just bought cheapies that kinda sucked. I finally gave in and got a Chi, it was around 80 on amazon I think. I've had it for 2 years and it is great. I use it every single day on myself and sometimes on my dd's. Both of my dd's have pretty curly/thick hair and it straightens it without making it frizzie.

I spent a fortune on a Centrix/Cricket for DD for the 18th Bday. It was recommended over the Chi because it has temperature settings. She loves it and it has held up really well being drug all over creation when she gets ready to go out at friend's houses.

I love my Chi. I had a cheapie too before and there is really no comparison.

My hair stylist uses the BaByliss, and I love it. I need to get one, but have been putting it off and using my cheapie one that I have had for years. Anyone know if there are different types of Babyliss irons and where the least expensive place to get them is?

I'll find out where my mom got mine....but she might have gotten it at a beauty supply shop where she gets a discount.

Does anyone have an opinion on the InStyler? Could it replace a flat iron?

We really like Cortex. My hair is easy, but DD 15 has really long thick curly hair and the cortex works a lot better than the chi. Cortex can be expensive, but marshalls and TJ Maxx often has them for very reasonable prices.

I invested in a Chi, but Ive been having problems with the Chi lately. where the cord goes into the plug part, sometimes it doesn't stay on. I have to jiggle the cord around to get it to work. I just ordered a GVP straightener from Sally Beauty. My hairdresser has one and likes it, and DD has one also. It works well and the price is right.

I have VERY curly hair & I still use the same CHI I've had for 7 yrs. I can tell it may be heading for the "end times" so I'll have to replace it soon. It's been great for this wild hair, though!

That doesn't actually flat iron your hair, it curls it a little bit. And anything that spins like that near my hair brings back memories of the Barbie hair "braiders" scary!

I think it does a comparable job...I used DD's a couple of weeks ago because my Chi was being difficult and it did a great job! When my hairdresser uses it on my hair, it comes out very smooth too

I love my chi! I have had it for 18 months and its still going strong. I bought it on amazon for $60 although (it may be cheaper now?)

I love it because it does straight and I can even curl my daughters hair with it.

I have super curly hair and I use the Chi. Got it for about $70 - it's worth every penny and then some. Also get the Chi Flat Iron spray. It protects the hair and smells yummy.

I heard from several people not to bother with the huge plated ones. The 1 incher works great.

Why not? I'm probably going to have to replace my 7yr old CHI soon & I was thinking of covering more territory in less time w/a 2". (I have extremely curly, long, thick hair!)
