at night or in dark queues?

i saw a thread on a different website and everyone was saying how they bring multiple small flashlights and have used them when its dark and to find something they dropped in a dark queue.

i have TERRIBLE night vision which means that even when others find the lighting dim but not dark i find it to be DARK and it takes my eyes a long time to adjust.
so for example when i am in the FP+ line for splash mountain going into mountain part of the line i can barely see at all and i hold onto someone.
same goes for rides like space mountain, thunder mountain when you get to the loading area, tower of terror when you walk into the library and boiler room...

do you think using a flashlight would help me in the dark situations like dimly lit queues and walking around the parks at night? (of course i would not be shining it in anyone's face, just the ground)

do any of you use a flashlight when you find it too dim to your liking? :confused3

I use my iPhone's flashlight quite a bit, but make sure it's turned off once I get near to the ride as to be polite. And make sure I never shine it around anywhere that could hit someone in the eyes. ::yes::

Do whatever you need to do to see and enjoy your vacation. If you can, find a red-light flashlight. Red light doesn't interfere with night vision and likely won't bother anyone - even if you keep it on during a ride.

If you're going during Halloween time, maybe some red lights on your shoes would be fun and practical. Look for small battery operated (long life) ones in the bike department.

I don't see (that wasn't a joke, honestly) why that would be a problem as long as you kept your light for yourself. When I saw the title to the thread, I kind of flashed (not a joke, I swear) on several teenage kids in a queue line shining tons of different lights all over the place.

What you want to do is fine and it makes your life more comfortable. I would suggest turning it off during all times when seated/standing in an attraction. Not the queue line, but the actual attraction.

And you can have fun with it. You can tape a sign to the flashlight with something like "sorry, night blindness even in the day" and then tape a bat next to it :)

Best thing ever is being able to turn on the light on my iPhone with a click button press. Though I would only ever use it in the queue and not on the ride as to me, that is just as bad as flash photography.

I have used a small flashlight to search for things in the bottom of our backpack and to unlock the combo lock on our stroller. I've seen parents using flashlights on dark rides for frightened kiddos, though I don't recommended that. We use glowsticks, less annoying to other guests.

I know it's supposed to be for atmosphere, but there are parts of MK and Epcot that are way too dark. When you can't see where you are walking, it needs improvement.

I have transition glasses and had a hard time with the queue in the Nemo ride. There is a part in there that is so dark even after my glasses change back that I can't see. I used the flashlight in my Iphone and it worked great. I just turned it off when I could see again in the queue.

Have you had your eyes checked for cataracts? A few years ago I was at US/IoA. I was in the queue for The Mummy.....walked right into a wall! I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. Called out to my friend (who has yet to let me forget this) and she came back for me. I held onto the strap of her bag. When I got home I went to the eye doctor. He asked if I had a family history of diabetes. Nope. He said he wanted me to come back and he would look for cataracts. And there they were! Dead center in my right eye and ready to be removed, and a slightly smaller one off center in my left eye. Right eye was done within a month, left eye a year later. My vision in the dark is vastly improved.
Anyway.....I have used my iPhone light before. And I've been with someone who whipped out a tiny flashlight from her bag when she dropped something in the dark. That was before phones with flashlights so readily available.

Do it! I usually bring a small one around with me because I hate not being able to see.

No one should bother you about it. Have a fun trip!

i have my eyes checked several times per year.
i was born legally blind with coloboma of most parts of my eyes. i had a retinal detachment twice in my left eye and i have no vision in it anymore. i had a retinal detachment twice in my right eye which is what caused the night blindness. i had a cataract in my right eye and had it fixed although due to how complex my eyes are the machines and all the tests and measurements said i needed one strength less when i actually needed a much lower strength so now i have to war glasses. oh and i also have glaucoma.
i always hold onto a friend or family member's hand or bag strap in dark lines and in dark situations.
i plan on going on a solo trip though and i think a flashlight would do the trick.
