Flash Mob

I'm talking about the spontaneous dancing, or freezing, or dressing up like best buy workers flash mob. The kind that make people smile!!

I think these kinds of flash mobs are so neat!! I would LOVE to be apart of one someday!

Flash mob were causing havoc in Philadelphia lately (don't know if anyone talked about it yet).. these flash mobs were assaulting people, vandalizing stores and were charged with felony crimes.

A few weeks ago sever hundred to 1000 younger adults converged onto a local nightlife spot.. people got assaulted punched and businesses were vandalized.

When I read Flash Mob I was thinking of the Philly incidents too because they are called Flash Mobs. The whole thing is so scary I'm not setting foot in that city anytime soon. No zoo, no amusement parks, nothing at all down there worth the risk.

The Glee thing sounds nice though but maybe it needs a different name.

I work in Philly (near Old city) and I will say during the day it is very well organized and a lot of police presence everywhere. It isn't that obvious but they are there.

we had one at a local mall around the holidays. Everyone got the choreography online and practiced on their own. They didn't come together until the flash mob. It was fun to watch.

The other type HAS to be called something else - I like Riot MOB! - the true flash mobs are so positive and get people together for all the right reasons!!!!

Oh that's cool! I'd love to be able to witness one in person.
The Glee one that my friend was a part of had online practice videos too, but they did meet in person to practice the day before. She said there were 1,000 dancers. Crazy!
I agree the Philly media has to change the name, I think Riot Mob is more fitting too.
Flash Mobs= smiles and laughs!
Riot Mobs= police, violence, and poop heads!!

We participated in the one during the taping of the Christmas parade with the Jonas Brothers. My 3 sons and I were right by the stage. I think about 5000 people were in front of the castle and learned the dance steps. IT WAS A BLAST! Here is a site for it ...

Waaalllll, in the olden days, we called the things where people overturned cars and set things on fire and scared people, we called them......

RIOTS.

I don't think we added "mobs" to the name back then. Nowadays, there's this thing called "Flash Mobs" and that's alotta fun, wherein folks who want to have a good time get together and everyone dances the same dance in public or does some kind of what some old hippies used to call "performance art". Now, the thing is...no-one was hurt, no buildings were burned, nobody was harassed (unless maybe they were "the man" ).

If you ask me, the Philly media types mish-mashed a fun, light-hearted activity with a nasty, mean-spirited somewhat-criminal venture...they have slandered the good name of Flash Mobs .

Maybe take out "mob ' and call these arranged acts of mayhem "Flash Riots"?

I don't know, it just seems that Flash Mob dancers and performers have so much fun and it seems so cool...it makes me sad that their light-heartedness has gotten smeared with the harassment activities of the Flash Riots.

That would be my daughter & I who participated in the Downtown Disney flashmob. You can see us in the parking structure where we all met before going to Downtown Disney, but I haven't seen a video at DD that shows us. Most of the videos were taken in one area, and we were at the other end of DD. Next time I want to be one of the people taking pics. There were some good poses not shown in the video.

SWEET! I thought I had read about someone being in that one! Glad to put a name with a dance!!

Thanks to the upthread poster who gave the link to the DD freeze Mob, that was really cool. I thought it was funny though....did anyone see the security guy walk through talking into his chest-mike(6:51-7:06)? I can hear the conversation now...

I agree with most, true flash mobs are awesome. They have been around for a long time and are fun, light-hearted events. It's unfortunate that the same term is being used in Philly for their riots, because that's not what they were intended to be, and aren't in most of the country. The riots need their own name.
