Flame Tree Barbecue or Tusker House?

Is the Flame Tree BBQ a seasonal location? We had planned on giving them a try February 19th because I heard the food was very good and because the tables furthest down the path are located in beutiful spot with a great view. Having never visited DW in February I was wondering about the weather and eating outdoors.

Also, the carrot cake at Tusker House is out of this world!

The carrot cake at Tusker House is the same as they serve all over WDW. However you are 100% correct it is out of this world. WDW has the best carrot cake I have ever had.

Now you have gone and done it, another item I must add to my must do, must eat list!

Is the Flame Tree BBQ a seasonal location?
After the 9/11 cutbacks it was. We were planning to eat there in March '02 and it was closed. I do believe they are open all the time now.

We have eaten at both and we didn't care for Tusker House. It wasn't bad, just not foods we eat. We loved Flame Tree and will be going back there in March.

That's good to know - I guess I just never ordered it anywhere else. So, what other locations sell it?

I love BBQ and my other half is a vegetarian. are the two locations close enough that I can get the vegetarian sandwich from Tusker House and Ribs from Flame tree's and eat at the "secret spot" ?

Where is Tusker House? I have eaten at Flame Tree before but I don't know where TH is.....

We always eat at Tuskar House. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We always eat outdoors in the back. It is very quiet and a nice break from the crowds in the park. We were just there Dec. 8th and even though it was raining, we still ate outdoors! I had the rollup sandwich (I think it was turkey) and it came with corn chowder that was very good and was perfect for the rainy day we were having! I have never eaten at Flame Tree, but it always smells good when I walk by!

definately Tusker house - the roast chicken is one of my favorite meals at Disney!

HANDYMOM - Its located down near the safari

I vote for Tusker House. The rotisserie chicken is our favorite counter service meal in all of WDW. We have had it in all seasons, and the "seasonal vegetable" has always been fresh green beans. It's a real meal--not like fast food or a sandwich.

Now, what's for lunch today? This thread has made me HUNGRY!!

where you are at in the parks at the time.......since they are both counter service and don't require a reservation you can eat whenever you feel like.

Look at your map when you are in the park..... go to the one that is the closest. The food at both places are great!!!!

I went with the advice from The Unofficial Guide and we tried Flame Tree Barbecue and we were very glad we did! My husband and daughter had the St. Louis ribs, I had a smoked pulled beef sandwich and my son had a kid's hot dog meal. We were all very happy with our entree choices. The adult meals came with fries and baked beans, which were both decent. The kids' meal came with fries and applesauce. There was so much food both times we ate there on our trip that we didn't even eat the beans!

The chocolate cake and the key lime pie at Flame Tree were superb! We were on the dining plan and are major dessert lovers/chocoholics (and believe me, it shows!) but our favorite desserts of the whole trip were the key lime pie and chocolate cake at Flame Tree Barbecue. My husband and I both agreed that the key lime pie was the best we have ever had.

Since we are on the dining plan in March, I thought I would plan my cs meals as well. I am considering Flame Tree Barbecue or Tusker House for lunch on our AK day. Any opinions? We are sort of picky eaters, no strange foods for us.

The Unofficial Guide ranks Flame Tree the best, but I noticed a lot of people eat at Tusker House on here. Also, which environment is better? Is there inside seating at both? Edited to add: I would prefer indoor seating, since I am somewhat bug-phobic, especially when eating (and yes I am planning to see It's Tough to be a Bug for the first time! :earseek: )

Thanks in advance!
we ate at tusker house on our trip. kids are very picky and loved it. rotissare chicken with potatos and beans was great, gravy was not to my liking but not bad. kids had chicken sandwich said it was best sandwich ever. i would agree about carrot cake dont usually like carrot cake but tried it and was excellent.

Most of the resort food courts have it, and many CS restaurants around the resort also have it. While the cake is the same everywhere you go someplaces give you a bigger piece than others. I have found that the food court at Port Orleans serves the largest pieces for the same price as everywhere else.

We have eaten at both but we really enjoyed the Tusker House. We ate out back on a nice patio but there was seating indoors. I had salmon with mashed potatoes and some very yummy green beans. We felt that the meals are a little more upscale at Tusker House but the bar-b-q at the Flame Tree is great. We often wait to see what we feel like and what part of the park we are in when it is lunch time. There are so many planned meals it's nice to leave a few up in the air.

Why not share a meal at each location? That way you can experience both.
We do lots of sharing and get to try so many things.

we ate at Flame Tree for the first time this past Nov & thought that the food & location were great. we ate overlooking the river w/ EE in the background & thought that was wonderful. However, we had to share our space w/ some bold animals who were already there being fed by other people.

i noticed that a previous poster mentioned a bold squirrel...we had very bold birds. one was a large white bird (don't know what kind) & 2 mallard ducks. 1 of the ducks was under our table walking on my foot looking for scraps - that's how close the experience was. the white bird reached its beak up on to the table next to us to grab the food we had placed on our tray for later. i am an animal lover but this was a bit much to deal with...it really did feel like Animal Kingdom!

i would definitely go back to Flame Tree for the food & the outdoor view but would avoid sitting w/ the animals. if you don't like bugs, then i'd opt for Tusker House!

LOVED the ribs at Flame Tree. LOVED the chicken at Tusker House. We took advantage of a little courtyard we found at TH with a few tables for outside seating.
