IS the 1/2 smoked chicken like rotissirie chicken?? Wondering what the food is like. Is it kid friendly?

Yes, it most definitely is similar to a rotisserie. I think if your kids enjoy that they will enjoy Flame Tree. It really is an awesome CS spot.

We really enjoy Flame Tree! We have eaten there on the last several trips. The chicken is very good and the cornbread muffin alone is worth going for!:thumbsup2

of all the times we've been to AK, we just tried eating here our last trip and after our meal, i realized what we were missing out on all this time and why we waited so long to try it!! It's REALLY good! :lovestruc

A favorite for us also! If you go around back there is a lovely covered pavillion you can sit at and watch the ducks in the water... and some of them come looking for goodies also!!! The food is wonderful.. we always get the ribs... and they have the best baked beans I have ever had!;)

Just don't send the family off for a place to sit while you wait in line. You may never find them!! The place is like a maze back in there with many seating areas. It's very nice, though. We love sitting by the water with a view of Everest.

To answer your question, the chicken does NOT taste like rotissere chicken but is smoked. My DD love rotissere but does not like the "charcoal" taste. She loves the pulled pork sandwich and the ribs however.

The pulled sandwiches are wonderful! DH and I are in Texas, so we're really picky about our BBQ, but we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!

We had to wander down through the maze to find a table though; haha. But, once we found something, the view was beautiful and the food was fantastic!

Yes, I was going to bring this up as well. Everything has a very smoky taste, not just barbecue flavor, but extra smoky. If you like a dryer, smoky type barbecue, then you'll love this.

We got ribs and chicken, beans cornbread and salad. Everything was very tasty. If you sit outside to eat, beware the birds overhead. There's LOTS of ducks and ibises and the birds that sit in the trees may leave you a surprise if you're not undercover!! ;)

+1

The chicken is great, but does not taste like rotissere chicken. It has a smokey grilled flavor, after all, it is barbeque chicken.

+1 for the Chicken....and I mirror the above comments regarding the beautiful seating location along the water...it really is a stunning setting. The chicken IS smoked...so for those on the east coast that think of BBQ as having sauce then you will have to get that from the condiment bar. This IS a great CS location though :)

This is our only must-eat CS location in all of the parks. Suggest finding a spot to sit with your party, then one or 2 people going up for your meal. That way you're assured of a spot and have a hope of finding the rest of your group. And beware the large birds walking around the seating areas. Not sure what they are, but they have very long bills. They came close, never really bothered us, but really freaked out DS5. He was sure they were going to bite him and he couldn't concentrate on his meal.

We are going to try out Flame Tree this time around and I was enjoying reading about the nice places to sit until you told me about the birds. My DDs are both afraid of birds walking (flying over head is fine), we have to be careful eating a picnic at the zoo because of all the birds. Is there other places that we can eat our meal that we would not be bothered by the birds as much, or do they come with the territory?

I think the birds pretty much come with the territory. We've found getting a table in the middle of the seating area as opposed to on the perimeter cuts down on the number of 'visits'. Also, sitting in a 'busier' area will give the birds more 'distractions' ! There may be specific areas with fewer birds, but there are so many birds all over AK, we found the best we could do was limiting contact while eating. Somehow, when we were up and walking around, the birds didn't bother DS at all - maybe it was knowing he could run away ! Enjoy Flame Tree, birds or not. The food is amazing and the location is lovely.

We ate there for the first time last year and loved it! I hope to try the baked beans this trip. My dd loved them so much she ate them all last year.

We ate there last week. First time on the dining plan for us and it really was a great dining plan meal and very tasty food. Pulled pork sandwich was very good. It came with beans. Also key lime pie for dessert and a nice lemonade.

Definately give this one a try.
