I did a search for this but nothing came up, can anyone help me. Can someone please tell me what the flag retreat ceremony is and is it worth going to? Where is it held? It will just be DH and I this time. Thanks.

i dont think its really worth it but a band goes down main street around 5:30PM and heads in front of the City Hall, and lowers the flag there.

If you have time to go, I'd say go. DH and I saw it for the first time in September and we really enjoyed just taking it easy and watching. The band plays, they take down the flag, the Dapper Dans sing, and then people join in. It is maybe 10 minutes or so.

I love the flag retreat ceremony, we always watch it at least once during our visit. It is a great patriotic ceremony. Last time we were there, in Sept. They honored a WWII veteran. I thought it was very moving. My kids don't even complain about going... LOL

We love it too! It's at the end of Main Street, just before the train overhead. It happens, I thought, at around 4:30. Just check with City Hall. I'd try it once. You may be surprised.

It's not my cup of tea. I'm from canada and they sang the american national anthem I think? anyway, I didn't know the words and I felt a little awkward so we didn't stay for the whole thing. My grandmother did though and she said it was boring, but still neat to see.
So I say, if you're on mainstreet when it's happening why not stay and see if you like, but I wouldn't take time to run to mainstreet to watch it.

my personal opinion is to go to it. i was actually the vet in the parade and it is great to see the support that there is. I just came from overseas where it always doesnt feel like there is so much support and for 2 days after people talking to me and the husband about it was awesome. i think it is a way to show support for both the troops and the country and it only take 5 to 10 minutes.

I saw it today (Sunday, 28 Jan.) and it was very moving. As a veteren, I am rather biased on such matters, but it should put a good dose of American pride in anyone who watches or takes part. The time depends on when the sun sets, so it will vary with the time of year, but it went off around 5ish today.
There is an anouncement for veterens to come forward as you hear your branch of the service's song played by the band. Then a detachment of Disney security (and some lucky little helpers) come forward and very crisply lower the flag as the band plays the National Anthem (not retreat, like I was used to, but it get's the job done). Then the crowd is invited to sing 'God Bless America" as the band plays. Very moving. It is good to see that some people still observe the ceromonies that remind us where it all came from, and what it is all for.
Like I said, I'm biased, but personaly if it doesn't move you in some way, pack your bags, sell your land, and get out.. I'm sorry, was that rude? Please get out. :)

I agree, I am a bit biased also. I loved it and plan to attend at least once per visit from now on. I got my 3 & 5 yr old girls out of the stroller, we all placed are hands over our hearts and sang. I am teaching my girls God Bless America because I believe it is something they need to know as soon as they can remember all the words.
Anyway, I found it to be very moving and would give it one try on your trip.
