Flabby old lady arms?!

When I was in 4th grade, my teacher would wear this yellow cap-sleeve shirt (still remember). I was always fascinated by her arm jiggling while she wrote on the chalkboard. I thought it was the COOLEST thing and wanted my arms to do that "neat trick" when I grew up. Well, my wish came true, and I wish (now) that I could see it through my 4th grade eyes. :rotfl2:

Sorry, my story is off-track and no help. Your post just reminded me of that memory. Good luck!

BodyPump classes will bust the jiggly arms! I work at a gym that offers this class, so easy access for me. Check their website to see if there's one in your area. I love this class! http://www.lesmills.com/global/en/members/bodypump/bodypump-group-fitness-program.aspx

I've been doing this class regularly for almost three months now and the flab is gone. No definition, yet, but the flab is gone!

They just launched this class at my gym over the weekend. I workout all the time and was shocked at how sore I was for a few days after taking this. Good sore - not injured sore. I am anxious to get back in there, but vacation beckons first. When I come back, though, I intend to do this class a couple of times a week. Good to hear from someone that it's been effective for them.

Great thread! I've been working on my arms for over 6 months. The bicep is looking good, but still hating the tricep and I do a ton of tricep exercises! Grrr! So my dh always says, light weights more reps "you don't want man arms". But you guys are saying, heavier weights, less reps, I'll have to give that a try. I am using 8 lb, but DH has 10 lb I can try out and the 8 lb has gotten easy.

You should be doing the max weight you can comfortably handle for that particular exercise. As your strength builds the weight you use should increase. I have figured out what weight is for me for each exercise and then do 2-3 sets with 8 reps each.

I also would not worry about getting "man arms".

Three cheers for all who have adopted an active lifestyle. I have had the drive for a long time, and this year, I finally got my opportunity to do it. DH and I are gym buddies. I've been working out since the beginning of the year. I started from the very beginning and slowly have increased workout times, resistance, weights and frequency. I do strength training, as well as cardio and I have to second the 'feed your muscles' advice. On strength training days, I take care to eat a protein bar or some extra protein. I have also been gradually increasing the weight. Once I get comfortable with a weight at 15 reps, the next week, I'll increase the weight with less reps until it becomes comfortable. I have pretty doubled my strength from where I started and I do not look like a body builder with big python arms. They used to be flabby and shapeless. They're still a little flabby, but they are shrinking overall, have nice clean lines and are showing definition. That will improve, too.

You won't get man arms from the heavier weights.

I am 36 and have done strength training since grad school. I do 2-3 sets of bicept curls with 15 to 20 pounds, and my arms are toned but very feminine.

I definitely believe in lower reps with more weight, based on the results I have seen from different womens' workouts.

Do a variety of exercises and as one of the earlier posts said, change your workout around frequently.
