I noticed today the new interchange between FL-417 and the Turnpike is cashless. Cars without Sunpass-compatible transponders will be billed for tolls by their license plate, which means service fees for rental cars. There is no cash payment option.

Generally speaking, visitors will not use this exit unless heading to or from the Miami area, but it does mean we can longer make the blanket statement that all toll roads in the Orlando area accept cash.

When we were there in March there was some discussion about allowing people to use their EZ Pass or other tolling device later this year. In other words, you would not specifically need a Sunpass. Any updates on that?

The last time I researched it the article said maybe later this year. The goal is to have the entire east coast on easy pass this year which I'm sure won't happen.

Yeah, I think the congressional mandate was to have it done by September, but congressional mandates aren't written in stone, especially when state and local governments are the ones being mandated to.

We're going in November, so I'll have to keep an eye on this!
