Five Best Shows On TV

I'm with you on Deadwood. (Btw, do you think they'll ever actually make the two movies and tie the series up?)

And are any of the Battlestar Gallactica seasons on DVD yet? I hear plenty of people say that it's actually the best thing on tv right now.

I still have my fingers crossed for the films....I keep reading rumors, but nothing confirmed. And yes, you can catch up with Battlestar Galactica on DVD; I've convinced most of my co-workers to give it a go. Well worth it.

And in reading all these posts, I'm 100% with Bicker on this. There's so much good TV out there...those that didn't make my final cut include many mentioned here: The Unit, House, Scrubs, Monk, Big Love, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Robot Chicken, The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. I even continue to watch Lost and Gilmore Girls (even though they've lost a bit of their luster this season). My DVR is earning its keep!

One last note: I really liked Firefly, although I never warmed to Buffy or Whedon's work in general.

We happened upon Buffy in its 2nd or 3rd season, and LOVED it! Even though I was a bit embarrassed to talk about it at work, it was my guilty pleasure. (I was well into my 30s by then, and it was kind of a hip show with the teenagers at the time! :teeth: )

We also loved Toy Story, and didn't realize until a year or two ago that JW had anything to do with it! But I'm not surprised, with the humor and smart dialogue. My sister just recently let us borrow her Firefly videos, and we got hooked on those as well, watched them all in quick succession, sometimes 2 episodes a night after the kids went to bed. Very quirky, very interesting characters (and BOY, were they characters, hee!) Didn't follow everything 100%, but was a fun ride nonetheless! I was so sad about the Preacher, loved Ron Glass.

I'll admit, I am curious about Firefly. But my beef with Whedon is this: Does every line a character of his speaks have to be some uber-snarky/hipper-than-thou catchphrase? And don't get me wrong. He's not the only screenwriter I ask that rhetorical question of. Much as I love Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, QT seems a bit in love with the sound of his own voice, as it were.

Law & Order SVU

House
Monk
Psych

Best show ever? ...Buffy. :)

Wellll...I am not sure I'm fully understanding your meaning, but I think I get it at least to a degree. Part of the reason I love JW's work is that the dialogue is smart, quick, and funny. Maybe too many one-liners for your taste, everyone is so quick with a comeback? I definitely noticed that, but it didn't really bother me, I guess. I didn't find Joyce, Dawn, Tara (and sometimes Willow) to have a lot of catchphrases. And of course some of the henchman's baddies were just lame.

Maybe I'm totally misreading your meaning. Did you dislike Seinfeld for the same reason? I thought Seinfeld got a bit tiresome. I've never really gotten into Tarantino, so can't relate on that one.

You pretty much nailed what I was trying to say. It's just that his (and Tarantino's) characters' lines are so self-counsciously clever, it tends to take me out of the narrative and make me almost hyper-aware of the screenwriter's presence. Which is maybe the point, I don't know. All I know is that's why I can't fully commit to anything by Whedon (save for the aforementioned Toy Story, and--kinda--the first X-Men... although X2 was far, far superior, IMO).

Anyway. I'll still probably give Firefly a whirl. I mean, it's not like I loathe the guy, or anything. No, I reserve most of my hatred for Mr. Michael Bay! :teeth:

1. Entourage
2. 24 ( I wait for the DVD's )
3. Good Eats
4. Battelstar Galactica
5. Lost ( I wait for the DVD's )

I totally agree that when you are thinking about the dialogue it takes away from the experience!

Firefly is very different from anything I've ever seen, it's a bit like coming in at the middle of a story, catching up in bits and pieces, and never really getting all of it. It's a puzzle!

I'm off to google Michael Bay now... ;)

Top Five TV Shows
Medium
Ghost Whisperers
ER
Law and Order all
CSI all

Wow this is hard............

I love love...... Men in trees
CSI-Miami
Desperate Housewifes
:teeth: Thrusday Night line up on CBS, minus The Class

1- Grey's Anatomy
2- Amazing Race
3- What About Brian
4- Brother's and Sister's
5- ER

I also love Men in Tree's and since they moved it to Thur's night I will be taping one of them.

1.) Grey's Anatomy (which is the BEST show on TV right now, imo, especially given the episode shown on Thanksgiving)
2.) Gilmore Girls
3.) Lost
4.) Desperate Housewives
5.) Nip/Tuck (which I can't believe not a single person has mentioned!)

Honorable mentions: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, One Tree Hill, The O.C., House

I just want to say, I find it so ironic that there are ABC shows all over everyone's lists. Four years ago, no one would have batted an eye at anything the station put on the air. Then they picked up DH and Lost and midseason replacement GA and the whole network rebooted itself. While NBC lost everything and now, no one will look at much of what they put on the air. Things change so quickly sometimes.

1. Heroes
2. Amazing Race
3. Brothers & Sisters
4. House
5. ER

Honorable mentions---Lost & Grey's Anatomy

Kelli
:groom: princess: pirate: pirate: pirate:

The (only) two shows I really love to watch are:

1. Battlestar Galactica
2. Grey's Anatomy

My top five as of today are:

1. Scrubs
2. The Office
3. Heroes
4. The Amazing Race
5. Gilmore Girl's

If it were top ten...lol...

6. Grey's Anatomy
7. Entourage
8. How I Met Your Mother
9. Unwrapped (food network)
10. Lost
