Fitting SOTMK into our day

We'll be arriving at MK at 10 am on a day when it opens at 9 am. The current plan is for me to wait in line at Starbucks (because, coffee!) while DH and DSs go to get their cards at SOTMK on Main Street. Is that a poor idea? Should we go to the kiosk in Liberty Square for smaller crowds (does that kiosk even still exist? It's not on the WDW map)? And also, about how long would it take DS9 and DS7 to do an entire round? Is there a less-busy time of day to complete the game? Is it unreasonable to expect to be able to do all of the lands in the 2.5 days we'll have at MK? Basically, I'm lost about how to fit this in my TPs, so any advice at all will be helpful!

It is a time-eater.
It will take away valuable from the primary attractions of MK.

If you can slide some of the searches into time waiting for FP+ to come due (and don't mind possibly running to/from opposite ends of the park to do so,) it won't detract from the other attractions as much.

Thanks Robo. So, it wouldn't be something we'd want to just complete all at once? Like the Pirate Adventure scavenger hunt in Adventure land? We'd want to do just one portal at a time?

It takes 3-4 hours to complete the whole game, and 20-30 minutes to complete each villain. This can be played over several days so it's not necessary to play it through all at once

Every villain is confined to a land - so if you are battling Cruella on Main Street, you will not have to enter Fantasyland. Once you complete a villain it will send you to a new land/portal (some lands have several villains) but you don't have to go to it if you don't want to.

Thank you SureAsLiz. Do you get to choose which land you begin in?

You should be able to. Most CMs will ask, but every once in a while you will get one who will assign a section, especially for first time players.

If your FPs are concentrated in an area (this game is great for passing time between them) or you have someone who doesn't wants to ride a specific ride (something to do while waiting for the rest of the party to ride) then you can pick that area. But once the game is started, you can't choose where to go next (ie, if you finish Main Street, you don't get to choose if you go to Fantasyland, Adventureland, or Frontierland/Liberty Square)

Obviously you should try to fit it into your plans, but I prefer starting on Main Street if I start a new game at the firehouse because there's only one villain there, so it's less walking to get it out of the way

Yes they usually ask you if you have a preference and you dont they usually start out on mainstreet. Dont forget they can get cards off of your ticket (MB with linked ticket) too. More cards=More fun!

I believe they still have SOMTK in liberty square still (Did at thanksgiving anyway). Firehouse may have longer lines but they have more CMs working it too so may not be quicker in end especially if you are getting coffee and you would still need to meet up.

We usually let DS do 1 villain when we need a break or have some time to kill before a fastpass or lunch. Also we tend to keep SOMTK for later in the afternoon when the lines for rides get overwhelming. If you get to the park at opening you would get more rides done in that hour and probably free up some time to play.

Turns out DS and DH can usually get one villain done in Frontier or Adventureland while I scope out a place for the parade. I text them my location and they are there before the parade takes off.

I do it in the afternoon when lines are longer - I have done a portal in between fast passes or when waiting for an ADR too.

It does take up quite a bit of time so I don't play it as often as I used to but I still get the cards (trying to complete my collection) and always do at least one portal so I can get more cards the next time I'm in MK.

The Liberty Square spot was still there in early January, we got our cards there in the evening with no line. .

We have actually taken several days to complete one villain. We get a new card on each MK visit (we parkhop, so it is several times a trip!), and play the one porthole you need to play in order to get a new card on the next visit. That way it takes up less time for us. Sometimes we will play a couple- if we are waiting for something else or just feel like it. The only catch is that you have to remember where you are supposed to go next when you leave off each time!

Were they playing the game before this trip? I believe to start them game you have to the Fire Station, but if you have a key or have the game linked to you MB, you can get cards at Liberty Square. So if you are starting on day to the Main Street desk, any other day you can go to either.

As far as "finishing" the game there 3 levels (easy, medium and difficult) and each level I think has about a dozen Villains to defeat. Just knock out a couple when you have time, get more cards each day and you can play each time you go. The game tracks your progress.

You may want to give your ticket/MB to DH while your are at Starbucks so you can be linked and get cards also.

They can actually start a game at Liberty Square - the training portal opened in December. The issue with the area is that it is only staffed by one person, and training can take a good 5 minutes which means that anyone else in line has to wait. Generally the people that go to that line are just picking up that days cards, so the line move much quicker than the firestation

Good to know. We were last there in November so I was unaware of the change.
