We are going to WDW the last week of June and would like to spend 2 days(a day at each park) at US/IOA. It will be for my son's high school graduation. I'm just wondering if he will be able to fit on the different rides. He has no problems at Disney. He is about 5'10" and about 290lbs. He is built like a football player. I have seen where they have changed the seats on FJ but what about rides like the Hulk, Rip Rocket roller coater, Mummy, etc. He loves the roller coasters and HP.

I'm trying to encourage him to lose some weight but don't want to spend the extra money on US/IOA if he won't be able to ride most of the big rides. We have never been there.

Thanks for any help.

The coasters at Universal and IOA have test seats located in front of every attraction entrance. He will need to try them to see if it's going to be a problem for him. There is a modified seat in rows three and six of each train on Hulk and Dragon Challenge...it's the one with two seat belts. On Revenge of the Mummy, if he has a problem pulling the restraint towards him, he would likely be put in the back row...which is not all bad. He will gets LOTS of air time and if he likes coasters, this should be music to his ears.

There is a thread about this exact subject in which people have given lots of private info about height weight and sizes and if they have been able to ride. It is mainly about FJ but people have posted about their experiences on other rides too.

Check it out here

I know that chest size has a major bearing on Hulk, Mummy, and both Dragons. But like has been mentioned the test seat in front are quite helpful. Hope your son fits and has a blast! :)

If he's main muscular, and that's what is making up a lot of his weight, he stands a good chance, in my opinion, of riding. Then again, with Forbidden Journey, if you have broad shoulders you're in a world of hurt, because you have to squeeze those shoulders between the "walls", which then can make it harder to get the restraint down enough.

Honestly we like Universal and IOA well enough that even though the biggest coaster we've been on is Flight of the Hippogriff, it's still WELL worth it to us.

The test seats aren't always accurate. I wasn't sure if I needed the modified seat on Dragons so I tried the regular test seat and couldn't get it buckled but on the actual train, I was able to sit in a regular seat and buckle the belt myself with no help from the ride operator. The same thing happened to me with a coaster at a local park. I tried the test seat and wasn't even close to getting it buckled, some people on another site told me I should try it anyway and I was able to get the seat buckled on the actual train easily.

I see you're from Ohio. If you've been to Cedar Point, and your son can ride Raptor, I'm positive your son can ride Hulk, and DD. Hulk and DD have a pair of Modified seats that allow larger people to ride than Raptor. Depending on how he's built, ROTM shouldn't be a problem. HRRR is smaller than ROTM. Comparing these to Cedar Point again, neither of these are as restrictive as Millenium Force or Top Thrill Dragster. I've never ridden Harry Potter, so can't comment on it. At my last trip I was 6' 4" and just over 300lbs and was able to ride everything. Hope that help.

if this helps any, my husband is 5'9 and weighs 265. he rides everything (forbidden journey, rip ride rock it, hulk and dueling dragons) without any problem. He is large around the chest, but fits in seats well.
