My guess is that the round bottom has been framed / blocked so guest will not slip on the curved floor on both sides. If you could estimate or measure the space between the parallel legs of the lap bar, that could help answer many of the “will I fit” questions on this thread.

Has anyone ridden both 7DMT and Space Mountain at Disneyland that would be able to make a comparison in seating comfort? 7DMT almost seems to have similar seating style and lap bars. I'm 5'10 and 400 pounds and have no problem riding DL SM. The trick is just to pull the lap bar back slightly over the knees and it is a go. And I'm sure 7DMT is much much more tame and could do the same trick.

Can some one comment on how the legs fit compared to It's a Small World.
My mom is on the shorter size, but poo sized ( not too bad) and for some reason, she really had issues with this ride. She said it hurt here knees and I recall also the leg room being small. She actually had this issue with most boat type rides ( the 3 Caballeros was really bad for here).

how much can one stretch their legs out.. she is about 5'4 but a size 20ish

I don't understand the complaints. Roller coasters have generally been less accommodating to overweight guests, due to safety requirements, not because Disney is trying to exclude a segment of their guests. Safety will always trump hurt feelings.

You've got the worries/concerns and the complaints.

The worries/concerns group are those who haven't been on it yet, like me, but have seen pictures and read ride reports that suggest larger people won't be comfortable. This includes tall people, fat people and just downright football players.

The complaints I've read are by those who have experienced the ride and didn't feel comfortable. It can be due to the bucket seats, or the lap bar, or the lack of leg space width-wise.

It's not so much people have hurt feelings as they seem surprised Disney made these smaller than what seems to be the norm for them. That could be due to design limitations, which could be included in your comment about safety.

But considering Disney's history with accommodating even the largest of guests, this ride seems to fall short of the expectations. Especially considering the time and money Disney poured into this, and the hype surrounding it.

If a rider that is 5 feet tall and weighs 115 lbs is snug, then there is an issue.

Disney has to realize by now they have a problem on their hands.

If they did what some people here seem to want, wouldn't the seats be too big for the smaller kids that they're trying to attract to the ride?

Maybe it's not Disney's fault if you can't fit into a seat.

I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs. I rode 7dmt on Friday and fit just fine next to my similarly sized son. Snug, yes. But by no means uncomfortable.

Agreed. I've read a number of reports that it is uncomfortable, but that's a wholly different thing than if people just don't fit (like the infamous issues with UO's Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey when it first opened). I don't think I've read a single report of someone being turned away due to size. Even just a little of that would probably indicate Imagineering messed up.

There's not a chance that a rider being 5 feet and weighing 115 has any trouble with seating. That's a far exaggeration

I just rode it for the first time this morning. I'm 6ft, about 210lbs..I noticed they were a little more snug that most disney rides, but I was perfectly fine. I probably wouldn't even have noticed it if I hadn't read the the stuff on here about it. I thought the leg room was fine as well.My gf who's about the size posted above, 5ft and 110 lbs, she said the seats were perfectly fine.

I think the issue is people being a little snug and making a big deal about it. Then those that haven't ridden it getting a preconceived notion of the ride and talking more about it.

If you're an average person you'll fit fine. If you have trouble fitting on rollercoasters like Aerosmith then you'll have trouble fitting on mine ride.

Mesa - if you read the thread I linked to the MagicWDW site you will see there are in fact people being turned away when they couldn't fit in the seats.

The guy who started the thread over there was one of them and a "white shirt" admitted to him that they have a problem.

My wife and I are larger in size, I am 6' and weigh 290ish(trying to lose weight) and I won't disclose my wife's size. We both rode it twice at the 24 hour event. Snug in the area of my leggs. but not painful.

I've ridden it 8x...,there are going to be a lot of people turned away and I'd suspect there will be a tester car out there very soon. It is the lap bar that is the real problem. If it was a single bar across like big thunder there would be little issue. It is the solo lap bar and the fitted seat area that imagineering screwed up.

Part of the problem is also bag storage with that lap bar. We had big shopping bags and you normally sit down and store your bags. Well on this ride you must store your bags below you and then sit. Families with lots of bags are going to slow down the loading process or find they just can't fit it all on the train.

Just curious because I haven't been there to see Harry Potter (next year!!), how did Universal solve the problem? Do they have to build all new cars?

They modified the ride vehicles so that the outside seats (#1 and #4) accommodate larger guests somehow. After they did that, complaints plummeted.

I am about 5'9" and weigh about 280 lbs. I am not particularly wide and my legs aren't that big, so I'm not too worried about the seats or fitting my legs in the lap bar. My problem is that I have a fairly large belly and I hope the lap bar will come down and latch successfully over my midsection. Anyone have any experiences with this problem?

A tester car would be great. Regardless of the reason why a person may be heavy, it's still embarrassing to be turned away at the load point, especially if you're sensitive and have low self esteem to start with. I don't want a group of us to be in line only to have one or two turned away at the last minute. With a tester, we can make the decision for ourselves and know what we are up against.
