Fitness Options at the Poly?

While I'm excited about my family's upcoming stay at the Polynesian Resort in July, I was a little disappointed when I read about the potential lack of full fitness options there.

I'm a Type 2 diabetic and manage the disease with diet and exercise. Since I know my food choices will be different than at home (lack of portion control, nutritional info; eating character meals/Tonga Toast/Dole Whips), I was hoping to not have to deviate too much from my fitness routine. I know that I'll get in plenty of extra walking around the parks but I also wanted to get in my aerobic exercise at the end of the day.

So I'm curious as to what fitness options do exist at the Poly? I'm sure I'll take my daughter swimming a day or two but not sure I'll get too much of a workout from that. I see that there's a jogging trail, which could be perfect for my power walking. Is it paved? Is it lit/safe to walk at night? I know that I can also use the fitness center at the Grand Floridian, which I'd like to do for the treadmill/exercise bike/elliptical/weights opportunities. Does anyone know if it is available to use after hours? I see that some fitness centers have the option to use them after the attendants are gone with your KTTW card and a signed waiver so I'm hoping that's the case with this fitness center too.

Thanks in advance for any information and shared experiences!

How about a run (or fast walk) over to the GF and back?

The jogging/walking paths are paved and very well lit at night. It's a great walk/run to GF and back and no worry about safety.

Can't really tell you about the fitness center other than during the GF DVC construction it is supposed to be closed. Used to see people in there in he evening. In the meantime they have made another spa available and are providing transportation.

The GF health club is OPEN, however, the SPA is closed. Oyster.com has some great GF health club photos. All WDW health clubs can be accessed 24/7 with your KTTW card.

Here is the Poly map with trails marked:

There is also a path to the TTC. I hope you have a great stay at the Poly!

Thanks for the info everyone. This helps me knowing what I can expect to have available to me in July.

I guess I was mostly nervous that the gym wouldn't be available to me at the end of day (not a morning person, coming from West Coast with the time change and typically exercise at night anyway) since I didn't see the 24/7 option listed for the GF fitness center as I had at other deluxe listings. With your comment, WDWKOOK, that they are available (and the pictures on Oyster.com looking like they were taken at 10:40 at night), I feel better about the fitness options available. I mostly do 4- to 5-mile walks in the evenings after my daughter goes to sleep anyway so a paved, lighted jogging trail is my first option but I wanted to make sure there was something available to work out different muscle groups (and be air conditioned during the summer visit) if I'm not too tired at the end of the day from park crawling.

Thanks again!

The GF fitness area is really nice, and the walk along the lake from the Poly to the GF is also very nice! :goodvibes
