FITBIT? Has this been discussed?

I don't know why but for the last few days I keep forgetting to put mine on in the morning. Dummy. :headache:

You are all a terrible influence.
I was doing WW online and saw their activity thing...read the bad reviews.
Started seeing fitbit mentioned there and decided disboards was place to read best info.
Found this thread....and of course yesterday I bought!
I actually like that you can do food on it---think when WW subscription runs out next month I will not renew.
Getting ready to try to get some steps in on my treadmill.
I joined the group...OLDGA is my name....nickname my son gave me...long story.

Thanks DVCDaisy! I am a happy member. I am just concerned that I have no idea how to use this and have looked at the website etc but not quite getting it. I too am looking for motivation right now...less than two weeks to go before the PHM1/2 and I have been having a hard time getting myself to the gym..but I have to say I am totally looking forward to going in the morning!! I can only imagine how many steps 13.1 miles will bring!! How does the "rewards" stuff work? Does it just happen or do you have to set it up? Thanks...

Dreamer have fun with your daughter at the PHM. It is on my list to do one day. Maybe for the 10th.

You can get an exact number of steps for you half marathon from your fitbit by using the activity tracker.

If you do not already know this you can hold down the button just like you do for sleep right before your corral starts the race and then when you cross the finish line hold down again, just like the sleep function. When you go to the fitbit website between the badges and the active time graph you will see a link in light blue that says "you have 1 activity record" click on that and it will give you a minute by minute account of your steps, calories burned, pace, speed and floors climbed. Pretty cool.

For the Tinker Bell half in January (my first ever half marathon) I logged 31,779 steps and 12 flights of stairs. And they say the Tinker Bell is a flat half. Yeah right there are some inclines along the route. I would love if you would post how many steps the PHM was for you.

I'm going to order one of these today. We are going to WDW next month and I love seeing how much I walk. It would be nice if there was an easy way to enter the foods at WDW into the database.

Sorry if it has but I can't find anything.

Just got mine yesterday and today is my first day wearing it - cool stuff! I bought it for the day-to-day tracking, but I have always wondered how much walking we did in Disney so it will be fun to see that in a couple of weeks.

FITBIT is a new-fangled type of pedometer that can track your steps, food intake, calories burned, time you sleep, etc. I have started a new fitness regime and I think it will keep me on track.

Jill

I haven't heard of it, but it sounds interesting. I might check into it.

Thank you WDWBarb! I tried it and it worked! I am so happy to know that. I am really enjoying my FitBit - I find it very motivating! I am not sure why...but grateful for the re-newed push in the right direction!

I started the Couch to 5K program today. I have a "zombie trainer" named, "Johnny Dead". He's pretty funny. Keeps things light. I have walked a lot. But I have to say the Couch to 5 kicked my butt. I seriously needed the cardio. The tracker for the program was off. I had a completely different reading than the Couch to 5, which is okay because I have the Fitbit and a pedometer on my phone. So I can keep an accurate check. What I really like is the voice prompts. Helped a lot. I think I'm going to like my pet zombie. :)

I have some weights, kettlebells, and some bands. I'm going to look into some youtube videos to incorporate. I'd really like to tone up!

I downloaded the C25K app but have not checked it out. Are you just using that? The app for your phone?

I really want to give it a try, but I am kinda nervous.

And can you do it on a treadmill, I may not be able to get outside tonight.

Thanks!

This is an app for the phone. I think it was $1.99 maybe $2.99. It's the Couch to 5K. This app is blue with a lime green 5 and a white K. I also got the 5 to 10K (same company) for free. Funny, I got that first because it was free, then I said, wait a minute. Ha.

I used it on the treadmill. I have an armband for my phone that I planned to use. I forgot it. :upsidedow

Off to the treadmill for you, NOW, ok sometime before bed. Today is day one week one. You can do this I know you can. :yay:

We have a half marathon to run together in 11 months. :dance3:

I on the other hand have one the end of April and the sun just came out so out to the street for me. 3 miles here I come.

Indygirl99 - Do you know if I do that thing where you start the step counter to know the steps during a certain time period will it negate the steps before then? Will the steps afterwards also be added to the days total? Thanks for your help.

Yup - my lazy vacation days are over. So before bed it is to the gym. Not sure if I will try the C25K app yet. I need to download it. AND I am watching 24 Season 8 while on the treadmill. Gotta finish that. Exciting.

I have watched all 7 previous seasons of 24 while on a treadmill, can't stop now :goodvibes

Yes, I am quoting myself :lmao:

I can't find the app & I know whatever I downloaded was free, so I have no idea what I have done. Off to look for the correct app! :badpc:

You don't loose anything by using the stopwatch function. Hold the button down for 2 seconds just like you do for sleep when you start and again when you finish.

It will give you a minute by minute reading under activities. Gives you all your stats. I use it most times when I go out for my runs so I can see what I did.

Do it for a few runs before the half so you see what it does for you. You will really want to do it for your half marathon run. Just think of all those badges yoou will get for steps and distance.

I'm a wee bit of a tech junkie. When I go out for my runs I have the fitbit, the Nike+ GPS watch and shoe pod thingy and runkeeper on my phone. I then compare them after I get home and take my shower. :lmao:

Yes you can do the C25K on the treadmill if you are more coordinated than me. :rotfl:

Until you find where you stashed it start your first day with 5 second run 55 second walk for 30 min. If you start to get winded just walk. If you plan on doing more than 30 min then I would probably walk after 30 min of the 5 sec run 55 sec walk.

If that seems to easy I would maybe increase to no more than 15 sec run, 45 sec walk.

Remember the point is to start easy and not increase to fast. The body should get used to what you are doing before you move to the next step. That is why you do the same thing for a week before you move up in the running portion.

I do the Galloway so for Tinker Bell I ran 30 sec walked 30 sec. I am shooting for run 1 min walk 1 min for the half in April but with this cold the 30 sec run/walk is all I can manage and still breath. I really do hate cold and flu season at the hospital. :headache:

Anyone know how the Fitbit is compared to the Jawbone Up? Im thinking about getting one, wouldnt mind having the Jawbone Up instead since its on the wrist instead of clip to the belt...

I just bought the Fitbit One and have downloaded it onto my phone. I'm dissapointed that you cannot scan your food into the database, and I'm really dissapointed with the food database as a whole. More than half of the items I've put in aren't in there!! I can understand my organic beef jerky not being there, but me egglands jumbo eggs should?!?

Other than that, I'm really excited to see what it reads during my workout this afternoon - I know the calories burned will read lower than what the treadmill says, but I'm hope not to much!!

I don't use the food options for my Fitbit, but I do know you can enter your food into other programs that are more user friendly & sync it with your Fitbit. myfitnesspal and Sparkpeople are two that come to mind.

Hopefully someone that uses one of these other options will answere with more specific information, but I think that you will be able to find another way to enter your food that you will prefer :thumbsup2
