My familiy has owned fishing charter boats in Clearwater for going on 40 years now. It's actually the longest established charter business on the Florida West Coast. We currently operate two boats (43' and 47'). My father operates one (40 years experience) and we have a hired captain (15 years with us alone!) that operates the other.
If you're not familiar, Clearwater is on the Gulf Coast, just west of Tampa, approximatly 90 minutes from Orlando. We're basically famous for our beach, and there is plenty to do for the whole family for a day or two.
Fishing that time of year is usually fairly good, depending on the weather. We'll be bottom fishing for Grouper on one of the boats (which requires an all day - 8 hour - trip), and trolling for Spanish Mackeral, Kingfish, and the occassional Barracuda on the other boat (which can be done on a half day - 4 hour - trip). When it gets closer to your trip, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to let you know whether they are biting or not, and what's being caught at the time.
If you have your heart set on big game fish (Marlins, Sail's, etc.), you may be best to stick with the East Coast. The water depth drops much quicker, meaning you don't have to travel as far to fish for the billfish on that coast. We do occassionally catch Sailfish on our offshore trolling trips, but it is very unpredictable.
Let me know if you have any other questions on fishing or Clearwater Beach in general (that goes for anyone

)! We don't try to push trips on you and will be more than happy to tell you the honest fishing conditions (if it's slow - we'll tell you). Almost all of our customers are repeat customers.
I'd prefer not to spam the boards with the boat names, prices, etc. but feel free to email me at
jtopicz1@tampabay.rr.com . We have two very nice hotel located centrally on the beach (Hilton Beach Resort and Adams Mark) which I can usually help you get for around $50/nt.
