I have a fish obsessed young adult son. I understand that all WDW fishing is catch and release, but what I can't figure out is where it's okay to pop a line into the water. Port Orleans and Fort Wilderness have the rentals, and obviously it's okay there, but I'm getting conflicting info about other locations. There's a lot of footage on the net of people fishing at Wilderness Lodge, but I can't find any official info. One of the guided expeditions is not an option. He'll have a small travel rod, so it's not an issue taking it on the buses, etc.

I've never seen the footage on the net that you mention, but I suspect it may be from Ft. Wilderness. There isn't any dockside fishing from WL. He could rent a boat or canoe and head over to WL.

He will want to stay away from the water's edge at Wilderness Lodge because of the possibility of alligators.

FW has some internal waterways, and there is possible shore area near the main pool by the rental building where you might be able to fish. When we took the kids cane pole fishing at POR years ago it was done at the dock near the main pool.
