hi
has anyone taken a fishing rod with them to florida?
did you have to pay to take it on the plane?
if so about how much?
thanks
charlotte

We don't fish - hence never taken a rod!! But, the Americans are so keen on fishing, I'll bet you can buy a new one, when you get there (probably half the price here)!
I'd just check with your carrier, to see if there is any extra cost.
We are golfers and always take them with us without any problems! There's always extra space to pack all our purchases too!

Don't worry about how you're gonna get the one rod there !!!!!!!!!!! worry about how you're gonna get the 10 home !!!!!!!!!!! believe me once you walk into Bass Pro at the top of International Drive the family will never see you again. Last year we brought home 2 electric outboards, a fishing tackle box and enough Rapala lures to catch every fish on the Norfolk Broads (and at a 1/4 of the UK price!). Thank heavens for Downtown Disney Checkin.

DH has always taken a telescopic rod in our suitcase - until our trip to Canada this summer when we took smaller cases and he decided to take the rod in a tube to check into the hold. It was certainly possible, and we weren't charged any extra, but it caused so much extra hassle and delayed all stages of the check-in / baggage retrieval process that we swore never to do that again!

One year he bought a rod in Bass Pro (for about $20) but had no tube to bring it home in, so wasn't allowed to check it in. He left it with the check-in guy, and still reckons it was well worth the $20 just for the he had from it out there :)

LOL! You could be talking about my DH! :rotfl: I think Rapala must be his middle name ;)

DH usually takes his telecopic rod but has never actually used it ;)

He was sorely tempted by the wide array of fishing tackle, at Walmart, last year but I managed to distract him with Batman toys.............long story :lmao:

We were put off by the prospect of having to pay for a license but friends of ours stayed in Clearwater and had a whale of a time fishing :thumbsup2

My wife's rationed me to one trip per holiday to look round, (usually about two hours), a two day break to think about my shopping list, and one trip back to buy stuff - and I'm not allowed any more 'looking round' time on that trip. :rotfl:
