I just returned from a 3 days no kids or wives fishing trip. We are avid largemouth bass fisherman here in the northeast and have dreamt catching the big one in Fla. We stayed at the Regal Sun for 3 nights. The hotel itself was fine. I've read some really negative feedback on tripadvisor but personally neither of us thought the property was 1/2 bad. I managed to get 73 a night with tax and resorts fees included from bookit.com. In retrospect had I known the lake we fished was 90 minutes away I would not have stayed in DTD. We fished a lake known as Stick Marsh/Farm13. Our winter rustiness bled through and we lost at least 6 fish each on the first day. Biggest fish 1st day was in the 5lb area. Second day we both much better. I was able to hit a 6.5, two 5's, some 4's, 3's and a couple of small ones. My partner in crime hooked into and landed a 9.5lb bass. Although he had me beat on a single fish I did fish circles around him all day :). We are both trying to figure out how we can do this yearly it was so much fun.

If any has some questions please feel free to ask.

Did you rent a boat. That sounds like what my husband would love to do while the kids and I hit the parks.

Interesting in that just last night I told my wife that I wanted a whole day to go fishing... but hopefully far closer than 90 miles away... I like bass, but prefer catfishing.

Yes we used a service. The website is hawghunter.net. The have guides located all around the state. We choose this lake and knew it was a far drive. There are sevral lakes closer to disney. Some are are only 15 minutes away. I believe some guides will pick you up near disney. Funny you mentioned catfish. We caught about 5 or 6 that day and I wish I could have kept them for dinner that night :)

Thank you for this info, I had always heard the fishing was good in Fl, but I never have tried it while there. This sounds like a must do for our next trip. I am sort of spoiled with all the good fishing close to home here. Looking forward to see what Fl has to offer. :thumbsup2

Glad I could help. I've seen numerous posts on this topic in the past and thought it would be good to share my experience.

If you want an adventure, go to the Mosquito Lagoon, on the east coast south of Cape Canaveral. It is saltwater flats fishing, and you'll have the time of your life if you go with a guide who knows the waters. The flats are shallow and clear, and you can sight-fish.
