DH is an avid bass fisherman. I had heard someone say in another thread that SSR has good (or the best) fishing. Is there fishing allowed on property outside of the guided excursions or pole fishing (like at POR)?

Also, if we tow a boat, is there any issue with parking it at the DVC resorts? Even is there isn't any independent fishing at WDW, Central Florida is prime.

My experience has been on the 7 Seas Lagoon and from the WL dock. Don't know how the other locations are, but, I chose this because I remember it took Disney a few years to fill the Lagoon and stocked it with 30K fingerling bass. Its a catch & release and we caught about 15+ fish a piece in 2 hrs. and all about the size you see. Great Fishing and the view "Magnificent"!! Enjoy !!:cool1:

We did the Disney fishing excursion last trip and my kids can't wait to do it again. We fished in the lake between the Beach Club and Boardwalk as well as on the way to MGM. The fishing was fabulous and all the fish caught were really nice size. My kids can't wait to do it again.

By the corner of Boardwalk:

We were at SSR in Jan and there was a couple people fishing off the walkway bridge from Springs to the Paddocks. They were very succesful in catching fish. We stopped and talked to them and they brought their own poles and bait.

Being from the east coast Canada we like to fish so we called the front desk about it, they had no idea and transferred us to the Community Hall/Recreation. Come to find out it was a no no to fish here. (not sure if we got anyone in trouble-sorry)

Anyways, they did say that they plan to offer fishing in the future (of course you will have to pay for it)

My understanding that officially the only ones who can legally fish are the poles at POR, the Excursions and from the bank from Ft Wilderness. However I have seen a number of posts of those bank fishing from OKW and a few other places and never heard of anyone being admonished. It is catch and release.

I saw a man fishing behind the YC one morning, a CM told he that he wasn't allowed to fish.

Thanks, I love your pictures (I can't tell you how many pictures we have of DH in the same poses :rotfl2: )!

Going in May and doing the fishing from the Poly.

This Jan I saw several people fishing from the bank at OKW.

Just found this on Mousesavers web site and thought about this thread and sharing...

Go fishing. This is strictly "catch and release." There are two places to rent cane poles (worms also provided): Port Orleans Riverside (near Ol' Man Island) or Ft. Wilderness (at the Bike Barn). Cost: about $4 per half-hour per pole, or $9 for a full day per pole. There is a family special of around $14 per half-hour for 4-6 poles.

I have fished three times (All from the YC) and have had WONDERFUL luck. On average the Bass are 3 lbs. My son caught his first bass ever right off Norway and it was 5 1/2 lbs. I was so happy for him and a little disapointed for myself ( I have NEVER caught a Bass that big after fishing for 30 plus years!). :lmao:

I will try to post some pictures later.

I didn't know you could fish inside World Showcase. What do you have to book to do so?

DH and I have disagreements over where you can fish and how, but I seriously doubt that WDW would ever just let guests fish wherever. I think Dean is right about the locations. I am not aware of any fishing in World Showcase. :confused3

DH has fished numerous times from the banks in OKW - sometimes near the road bridge, but othertimes on the waterway down towards DD. Last trip he was 'moved on' by one of the boat patrols who told him the only place OKW allow bank fishing is inside the bridge (i.e. furthest from the dock).

SSR told him they had a no fishing policy :(

We fished at Port Orleans riverside last summer. We were there for one of the kids cruises.

it was cane pole fishing. very cute. Thye had a bait issue apprarently it had not been delivered? Which was fine by me we used chopped hot dogs.
The only problem was my dd and I were the only ones with my twins so WE had to take the fish off the hook. They caught thier first fish and we went to take it off and it had somthing very sharp on the fish. Like a barb so of course I dropped the fish and he and the line flopped back into the water.

On the 2nd fish a little boy about 10 came running over to take it off the hook for me. ANd he said I saw you got the barbs. So I will help you. After that we quit one fish each and off for a Mickey Bar. they are going to have to take Dad or an Uncle next time. I am NOT a hunting fishing, type of gal.:hippie:

It was about $12 for 2 kids for a half an hour including bait??

Cindy-the boys look like they have gotten much bigger.

I think my son would love this type of an excursion-? prices?

I am very interested in knowing how to set up the pole fishing for my little ones- ages 7 and 4 in May.

Do you have to reserve ahead of time or just go to Port Orleans or Ft. Wildnerness when you want to fish?

And where are the rentals set up? I have rented bikes before at Ft. Wilderness, is this nearby?

About 8 years ago I did the fishing excursion at POR. Then you were able to go on the excursions by the person. The cost was about $30.00 for 2 or 3 hours. However Disney states they do not offer this any longer. The fishing was great probably caught around 30 bass during the trip. I wish they would bring this excursion back. I can't bring myself to pay the cost of boat charter for just two people.
The cane pole fishing at POR and at BWV is also pretty good, but I think BWV does not offer this any longer.

Funny how that happens, Noreen, over the year. :( Why is it we only seem older by looking at our children and how quickly they have grown?

As for the fishing, I want to say it was about $275 plus we tipped the guide. Expensive but worth it for the experience. In fact, my kids talk about doing it again. :scared:
