Fishing at the FT

OK guys, best way to transport poles? I am driving an Astro van now and will be loaded down. My dd6's pole is a collapsible barbie pole (which caught the first 3 fish on our first fishing trip ever last year). The others are "real" poles according to my son. LOL I must add that after she caught the first three fish, I offered him the barbie fishing pole.

They come apart into 2 pieces. I am fairly new to this and don't want to arrive with broken poles.

BTW, yes, I bait my own hook, even with worms. So do my 6 and 8 yo girls. dd13, not so much.

You can fish from a boat, rented from the marina, right?
Are they all motorized boats?
Can you take the canoes or kayaks into the lake, or do they stay in the canals? Even though I don't fish much, I'd love to kayak around the edges of the lake, to see the sights...

I fly fished the canals for like 10 years, but haven't in like 6 or 7 years now and found the best was the canal that goes to the golf course just past the bridge on the golf course. You're not supposed to fish there and will get chased off, but I just did it until I was told to move. Below is a bass I caught just past the bridge on the left side of the canal looking towards the golf course. That was probably about 10 or so years ago.

Back in the 1980s to early 90s there was no catch and release, but I generally did that. I also caught a few good sized large mouth bass about 1/3 less than the one in the above pic near the bridge going over to the meadows from the 1500 loop and along that canal where it meets the one going behind the 1600 and 1800 loops leading to the golf course.

The least costly way to transport and to save as much room as possible is to buy a roll a generic brand of aluminum foil,,,break down the poles into two pieces and put a rubber band on the top &the bottom of the pole pieces to hold them together. Take plenty of aluminum foil and wrap your hooks and bobbers (if they are attached to the poles) around the poles.

No, you can not fish from rented boats. (you would be tak'n money away from the "Fishing Excursions" if you did that)

Yes, boats you rent are motorized.

No canoes or kayaks on the lake, only on canals.

I can attest to that. Not that I tried fishing off a rented boat. Just that the Bay Lake Patrol CMs will come check on you if you are stopped or going too slow for longer than they think you should.

One really pretty December day I had a pontoon boat out and was sitting enjoying the hot sun on my chilled NY body over by River Country out of the main boating channel. :rolleyes1

After a couple of minutes a Bay Watch babe...oops Bay Lake Patrol CM...came over to me at full bore and checked on me. She was easy on the eyes so it wasn't too unpleasant  and I assured her I was not doing anything other than enjoying the sunshine. She sped off but from a distance I could see her keeping any eye on me until I moved on. pirate:

My DH gets a guide on Lake Toho...(near by) for the day. It is a longer day and fishing for the same price.

sorry the pic is so large...

So glad to hear my hubby can fish. Its getting harder and harder to keep selling him on trips to Disney...this may do it for another 2-3 trips!
