Anyone done this? I'm not looking for an excursion, just some leisurely fishing at the Fort (and hopefully it's allowed). Anyone done this and had any luck? What kind of fishing and what bait did you use? We enjoy bass and crappie fishing, but if the girls could catch some bream, that would be great too. :thumbsup2

Thanks,
Sonya

You can fish with your own poles and what not in any of the canals at Ft. Wilderness. However, I think it's all catch and release.

Definitely all catch and release anywhere on Disney property.

Both of my kids fished behind my parents' site (1428?) on our last visit. We could nothing, but they had a great time. : )

When I was there in Dec, someone was fishing too close to the shore, I think it was at MK by where you wait for the bigger boat and they caught a bird. It was real sad, they unhooked the bird, but I don't know if he made it alive afterward...Just a heads up to watch for the birds!;)

I have seen people fish in the wide canal area in front of the Bike Barn. They were using bread and caught several fish. I couldn't see what kind they were, but it is definitely catch and release.

I went down to the boat launch and fished to the right of the dock. There is a concrete bulkhead there. Caught a nice bass and a couple bream on a Rooster Tail Lure. I know it says no fishing on the dock but the area I fished in according to the CM in the boat rental shed said it wasn't a problem. She did say that if a boat was pulling in or out to not throw until they were out of the way. I have a freshwater license but not sure if that's a rule on private land or not.

You have to be kidding me??? :rotfl: Sounds like there was some crazy person casting for birds and not fish...what kind of person catches a bird??:lmao:

Thanks! I think we'll try our luck at a few small bass and maybe bream for the girls. They'll love it and have a great time trying! :)

No license necessary to fish on Disney property.

Nor is it necessary to actually catch fish on Disney property. I have had the worst luck trying to catch anything (and I'm talking since the early 80's....lol), but I keep on trying!

Saltwater fly fishing, no problem. Bass fishing at some random lake, no problem. Trying to catch anything but weeds at Disney, problem.

:headache:

But you know, a bad day of fishing at FW is better than a good day at work anytime.
