If I am staying at Pop, would my son and I be allowed to fish at Port Orleans? My son is really into fishing, and I would love to surprise him with a quick fishing excursion one afternoon.

Yes you would be allowed. Just bring some I.D with you. We were staying at Riverside and did this on our last trip. I think it about $5 for the pole and bait, maybe a little less. My two kids and I all caught one fish. They were pretty small but we still had a good time. It was my kids first time fishing. We had the best luck all the way over to the right side. Check the times before you go. They are not opened all day. They also close if there is a threat of thunderstorms.

All I've heard about is a "catch and release" policy. I don't think you're allowed to keep the fish you catch.

Well, I wouldn't want to keep the fish, LOL. Where would I PUT them......

My son and I do mostly catch and release. I don't care for scaling fish and I feel like its wrong to kill them and not eat them

We've done the Catch and Release fishing at POR the last couple of times that we stayed there. It's cane fishing. The younger kids (and my 23 year old son) love it. It's very relaxing. As an FYI there are umbrella's set up to keep you cooler in the hot Florida sun. :sunny:
