We are booked for a 2BR for our fam of 4 + the inlaws. Really looking fwd to it. MIL is a huge flyfisher/kayaker and DS/DH love any type of fishing.

Anyone out there who has experience with fishing charters? It's always nice to have personal recommendations.

::yes::

We were there in August, and my son-in-law, my 9YO grandaughter and I went shark fishing one evening. We had taken a dolphin cruise earlier in the week, and our guide had suggested Captain Eddie and his boat the Double Trouble for our fishing expedition. So that's who we used.

My SiL caught a 7 foot lemon shark that we got alongside the boat. The thing escaped before we could land him, but to be honest with you, none of us were all that disappointed. It was a monster!!! We've got pictures to prove it, at least.

Later, my grandaughter landed a 39-inch reef shark (with a little help). It was one of the biggest thrills she's ever had. And the story gets more dramatic every time she tells it.

The boat left from the South Beach area of Sea Pines, which is a really cool area with lots of shops and restaurants. It cost us $300, and we went out for 3 hours. There were two other boats out at the same time, but they both got skunked while we caught two good sized sharks. So I'd say Capt. Eddie is a pretty good choice.

Here's South Beach's webpage for their charters: http://www.southbeachvillage.com/bw/charter.html

I forgot to mention one other interesting thing about our shark fishing trip. We were fishing in the same area where we had taken the dolphin trip in the afternoon. While we were fishing, a dolphin came alongside the boat. The boat's captain threw some chum to it, and it jumped into the air to catch it. Just like in Sea World.

My grandaughter then started feeding more of our bait to the dolphin, and we eventually had to go in a little early because she used it all up. But it was a cool bonus, and actually better dolphin watching than we had on our dolphin excursion.

So make sure your kids don't give away all of your bait if they fishing!

Jimbo, that is an awesome story. I will tuck this information away for our July HH trip! Thanks.

We took the charter offered thru the activities barn. The captain met you there and walked over to the Shelter Cove Marina. Lasted 3 hours. Caught 8 sharks, blacktip reef and bull up to 5 feet and 80 lbs. Captain was great with kids as it was me and 5 daughters ages 7-18.

I was poking around my hard drive and found a few pictures from our trip that I'll post. They're a little big, but if you don't fish, you're probably not reading this thread. So maybe it doesn't matter.

Here's the 7 footer that got away. It's tough to see how big it is, so you'll have to trust me.

Here's Kayla holding her shark and trying to pretend that she's not terrified of it.

Here's our "pet" dolphin, eating our bait.

Edited to add: I guess these pictures aren't showing. But if you want to see them, you can got to www.webshots.com and select "Community." Search for member "fordcam" and you'll see the photos.
