Hello my fiancé and I will be going to Fort Wilderness for the first time and we are staying in a cabin. We always take a day to just explore the resort so when we check in on Sunday he was hoping to do some fishing. I know we can go on a fishing excursions but it's not cheap. Does anyone have an experience on where we can fish at the resort? Thank you

Born 2 Fish where ya at? This is right up your alley.

Since Disney is private property, a FL license is not required for one. Guest can fish at WDW just about anywhere. There are some designated areas that require purchase of a cane pole, etc and are off limits. However, I have fished from the bank while I was staying at various resorts. Basically, avoid docking areas and other high traffic area. When I was on a guided trip, there were several anglers around WL fishing from the bank. Also, canoes and other boats are available for rent. Remember that it is a catch and release fishery only.

We used spinnerbaits since FL bottoms are covered with lure fouling vegetation. A buzzbait is good, too.

Good luck
JB

Thank you! We will probably just stuck to fishing at fort wilderness but I didn't know you could fish the banks of bay lake that's pretty cool. Also understand it's only catch and release I saw that a bunch of places where they said you could fish the canals

Howdy ! I hope fish'n goes real well for your fiancé.
bruhl1j is correct, you do not need a license to fish Disney property (private).
Fishing Disney is strictly "Catch & Release" only. You cannot fish from any dock or public areas or beach areas. You CAN however fish along the banks of the big lake or any of the canals thru out the Fort, and don't let the canals fool you, some of them may look and seem shallow, but can hold some nice fish. One of my favorite spot to fish is behind the 300 loop where the canal meets the lake (fish both the whole areas).
Also it's fun to fish behind the Meadows Store pond ,,we have caught many 29 and 30 inch cats outta there.

If you can't bring your own equipment , you can rent equipment at the Bike Barn behind the Meadows store pretty cheap.
And there is no specific type of poles or equipment required to fish certain areas, you can use any poles.

Happy fishing to ya'll !!

1) You are going to really have fun fishing!
2) LOTS of fish.
3) Lots.
4) Unless posted to the contrary, drop a line or cast a bobbin.
5) Just remember EVERYTHING is catch & release.
6) Includes characters you might hook when casting from your deck/patio.

Thank you for all the information! Is the fishing still good when we go in December?

Born2Fish could catch bass in the middle of a hurricane, rowing in a canoe, in a water puddle in front of Cinderella Castle. :-)

1) And the wife thinks I am crazy to play golf in downpours!
2) Of course, it doesn't beat getting caught in The Gulf in a tropical storm on a 44' Ketch.

Frank, With catch and release, have you ever caught the same fish twice? :thumbsup2

Actually,,,,I have :lmao:
I've had a line break after try'n to land a bass only to catch the bass a few minutes later with the lure from the line I just broke still hooked in it's mouth :lmao:

Here's one for you,,
2Goofycampers (my beautiful wife) and I have once reeled in the same bass at the same time,,
apparently the swimmer hogged down both our baits straight from one line to the other, :lmao:

of course I took credit for the fish,
