During our recent trip, we did a good bit of snorkeling (and never knew how awesome it could be!!), and we saw darn near every fish on our Hawaiian fish identifier card. (We saw both blue and red parrotfish and even a boxfish!!) But we saw one little guy I still can't ID. I need to reduce the size of a pic to post, but it looks a lot like a turkeyfish, but not quite right. It looks more brown and black than red, and its fins don't look exactly like all the pics I see of turkeyfish, but it does have "feathers." Anybody know if anything else that sounds like that? I'm guessing it's sine variant of that scorpionfish family, but can't find anything that seems to match up exactly. TIA for any info!

Also, I can't wait to get the parrotfish stills pulled out of my GoPro video...they were beautiful!!!

Could you please share your favorite places to snorkel? I love to snorkel and dive and my fiance is taking diving lessons before we go to Hawaii, so I'd love some tips of where we could go to snorkel. I saw Hanauma Bay somewhere, but it has an entrance fee, so I wonder if it's really better then a the lagoon at Aulani. We're not really beach people.
Hanauma Bay is well worth the $7.50 to enter. My hairdresser dives all over the Caribbean, and when she went to Oahu to dive last year, they ended up spending two days snorkeling at HBay! Poipu Beach on Kauai was our next favorite. We also had fun at Sharks Cove, but the Cove part itself is very, very rocky and quite shallow in lots of places. Our biggest trip regret (and we only have a couple!) is not spending another day at HBay.
