Fish extender width?

I'm trying to design my fish extender but don't know how wide to make it. Thanks!

Ok, I saw 8" in the how to faq. Is that typical?

Yes, it's typical. If you make it any wider than that, the FE will stick out from the panel that the fish is mounted on and overhang into the hall. You're good with 8" though, have fun!!!

Oh dear... I'll measure mine but i'm sure it is 16 inches

8 inches is tiny, wouldn't fit any of my gifts in!

Yes 8 inches is the proper width to use, as that section of the wall where the hook to hang the FE from is only roughly 8".

Is there anything I can do to make it fit now? We go in 2 weeks and I don't have the time (or skills) to make it slimer.
If I cut the rod to 8 inches then the remaining material at the sides could just fold round couldn't it?
