First Year Points

Just back from a fantastic week at AKL. Went thru the DVC presenation while down there and am confused about something. When you join - when do you get your first points? I was assuming you'd get points just as soon as you joined - perhaps pro-rated until your next use year starts. But the presenter said that you only get points when you join if you do the Magical Beginnings and that I could only do that during the presentation. He said that if I joined while down there I would get a full years points retroactive back to my use month. Then if I wanted to I could sell back to Disney the first years points. But that if I didn't buy while down there, it would be next March before I'd get any points. Is that correct?

Not as far as I know. You should get this years points when you purchase. Usually your use year is predated a few months before you close, unless you request otherwise. The MB may only be in effect while you are at Disney, but that isn't a good deal anyway as you are liable for dues on points you purchase and lose one years worth ( Dues 3.77/point, MB - $5/point = $1.23/point savings). Some have reported MB or special financing rates are available for 1 week - one month after initial presentation.

For BC, you should get 2002 points from the start of your use year. If your use year is in the future, you will not get points immediatley but could borrow if you needed to. If you got say a Feb use year, you would get full points from Feb and then again next Feb. Since the MB is such a poor deal at present, don't worry about losing out on that.

We took the tour when we were there in the beginning of May but didn't decide to buy until after we returned home at the end of May. We are still getting the points for 2002.
Our use year is Feb. and in 2-2003 we'll get 200 more.
