Hi Everyone!

Tom Bell, Webmaster Corey, Webmaster Dustin, and I got to take part in the very first large scale performance of World of Color using the "Glow With the Show" Mickey Ears that will be previewed to Annual Passholders at the end of this month.

Can I just say that Disney will be raking in the cash with these babies. It was simply AMAZING!

The ears are triggered by RFID to respond to transmissions from the show's system, as well as a couple of the new rides in Cars Land. DL has not been set up to participate in this......YET.

During World of Color, they transmit what colors the ears will change to, which ear will light up (and which color), how they blink, and also can make (for example) every 1 out of 50 ears light a separate color to create unique effects in the show.

I could not stop smiling! Tom and I both thought it was incredible. As we approached Paradise Pier, we didn't know what was in store for us, but when we saw lit ears ahead, we almost RAN! What was running was the little voices in our heads, saying "HOLY CRAP - GLOW EARS!!!!"

Yeah. We got sucked in.....

Kelly will be writing a blog about the AP Preview and we have formal video up on the DIS YouTube channel tonight. There are already links to some iphone video that Corey took. Keep your eyes peeled.

They'll be for sale in DCA after the AP previews, I'm sure. We have no words on price. We're guessing that it will definitely be a bit more than what the fancy normal ears are now, though! ;)

This would be a great place to start a "baby pool" and guess the price!

Tom put in a guess of $29.99! What's your guess? What would be too high of a price?

i could see 20 being an ok price not to say i wouldn't pay 30 as long as I knew how much they are before i go lol

My brain from hundreds of miles away says I'd only pay $20. However, that completely shuts off the minute I enter the esplanade so I figure I'll be paying any amount once I get there.

:) I put a churro bet that it be closer to $34.95.

second chance bet... $39.95

Inside The Magic is reporting that the ears will be $25 and will go on sale tomorrow...

I guess I have to send an iou to Nancy for the churro. I wonder on how soon the price will go up with guest demand.

Wow..this sounds amazing..so to make it a great show alot of people have to pony up the $25.00 every night? Genius..and yes, I can say 'ridiculous' at home but when I'm there I'll probably scurry for the ears. :)

It looks cool in the video, but if only a few people have them it'll look silly. Hopefully its at a price point that many people will be willing to pay (or for AP to keep wearing them back into the parks)

Yeah, if they are too much people won't buy them and then it won't look as good. Since you can't see your own head, it seems better just to watch everyone else's mouse ears and if they cost too much this is what people will decide to do. How do they look during the day when not on? $15-20 would be my guess. To me they would be worth more if they looked cute during the day also.

But do they only glow in response to Disney's commands? If they can be turned on at other times, my 12 yo daughter would love a set! Her favorite souvenir from WDW is the glowing, color-changing Mickey head balloon.

Now that I've seen the video I had a new thought. Maybe that's that's their answer to all of us short people who may have a hard time seeing the show. Now we can just watch everyone's mouse ears! :rotfl: It really does look very cool they way they did that though!

They just blink randomly when not "activated". There are a little heavier than normal ears, but they do have some padding.

Thanks so much for posting this. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it.

I stumbled on one of the videos earlier and I wish I hadn't (it spoiled the surprise for me, LOL). We are scheduled to participate in the June 29th AP preview (which comes with free ears). Well, I thought it was a preview, but I guess it is really just an "event" since they will be selling the ears before then. But I'm looking forward to seeing it when everyone in attendance has the ears on :thumbsup2

I think this will be one time where we aren't concerned about being up front on a railing but will actually try to get a spot further back so we can see all the ears.
