Hi everyone. I was wondering if any of you knew what was going on the first week of November. This is when we have our wedding but the airfares are crazy high. I'm now considering changing my wedding date. There are also black out dates for the first 2 weeks. Anyone have some insight? This is really stressing me out. I thought I had picked a decent time of year but now it doesn't appear that way. :sad2:

NJ teacher's convention is usually during the first 2 weeks of November (usually the first week) - if you are trying to fly out of Newark it could just be supply and demand. A lot of families use that time to go to Disney since the kiddies have off.

That's weird though because I checked and the teachers convention isn't until November 8. This sucks. I'm going to have to move my wedding.

One thing I know is that domestic airfares don't start to come down until 3 or 4 months out these days. If you shop any earlier than that, you get what one travel expert calls the airline's "wish list" prices—what they'd love for people to pay but what most people won't pay. When nobody bites, they start dropping the prices inside that 4-month window. The exception to this rule is holiday travel (Thanksgiving and Christmas, not, like, Halloween and Valentine's Day), which is high all the time.

Food & Wine will still be going on at that time, and Veterans Day is the second week of November—those might indicate higher crowds at WDW. I know that the theme parks see a bump in attendance surrounding any 3-day weekend, but Veterans Day is not a huge holiday the way President's Day has become at WDW. We actually moved our wedding earlier by two weeks (*after* Disney sent our Save the Dates) in order to avoid President's Day.

I know it can be scary to wait, but I'll bet airfares start to come down in July or August. :thumbsup2

Thanks Carrie. I hope so. I'm freaking out about possibly having to change everything around. And we already sent out our save the dates. It just seems so odd. I checked in Sept. and the rates were like $400 and for Nov. $1000+ They are out of their minds.

Do you know if Labor Day weekend is a big flying weekend as well? I'm looking into flights for our honeymoon and we want to leave the Sunday before Labor Day, but I'm not sure how long I should wait before buying a ticket. Right now it looks pretty expensive around then as well.

I think they will come down. I flew from Newark to Orlando in November of 2010 (I think the dates were the 6th to the 12th) and I think I only paid about $250 round trip. We bought these tickets in September.

Yeah, Labor Day is usually pretty expensive for airfares. Friday and Monday will be the most expensive that weekend. You might get a cheaper fare flying on the Saturday cause it's right in the middle of the weekend. I know I've had Disney trips were I actually saved 20 bucks or more by paying for an extra night at a Value Resort and flying on the following day rather than paying all that money just for the return ticket. And who doesn't want to stay an extra night? :teeth:

Thanks for the info! We are getting married Saturday night so I think that Sunday will be our best bet. I'm hoping things won't be too expensive since it is technically in the middle of the three day weekend, and we'll be taking a morning flight. We shall see. I'm not sure how far I can push it until I have to buy a ticket because I don't want them to sell out or go way up in price.

Where were you thinking of flying out of? I was going to fly out of Atlantic City but Southwest will not be over there as soon as my wedding so now we are looking into Southwest out of Philly...it is still too soon to book airfare but they said for a group they give the following:

10 percent off round trip air fare
bags free
priority boarding
easy name changes

I am going to give them a shot I think once they have their fares set up, if cheaper air fare comes through I will then try to work with them but I was really hoping for like 150-200 roundtrip from them!

Yes, for some reason they moved teachers convention this year. We purposely booked for teachers convention week as my whole family works in the school system and then found out 2011 is the exception (hitting my head on the keyboard). Oh well...we are booked! lol
