i am thinking that if i go the first week of june while a lot of kids are still finishing school that it won't be as crowded as the middle of summer. is this just wishful thinking on my part?

No, there is some truth to that.

I also agree with Mesaboy. We were at WDW last year the first week of June, as our DD's got out school on May 31.

Crowds were on the moderate side (5-7's) all week - wasn't crazy by any stretch except for A&E and the SDMT at MK, especially since they just opened. Thankfully we were able to grab FP+ for them both

Our plan was RD in the morning, 3 FP+ late morning/early afternoon with lunch somewhere in between. Then we headed back to WL for a pool break - the crew running the pool games were fantastic, as were the bartenders at the Trout Pool Bar! We then headed out for dinner and then either back to the parks or out to the WL beach to watch a movie that night. In fact the only line that seemed to be problematic for us was at the Dole Whip stand.

Weather was hot (touched 90 some days midaftenoon) but not unbearable yet. Made the pool feel even better.

To me this is the best time to go in the Summer, by far.

It's been a few years, but we have gone twice during that week as our schools finish at the end of May. It wasn't a "low season" by any means, but definitely more manageable than it gets later in the summer.

In fact, both trips, I noticed a very significant increase in crowds on the last couple of days, and the day we left to go home in 2010, I saw the crowds lined up to go into MK from the monorail and was actually glad our trip was over. We certainly hadn't experienced anything like that earlier in the week!

Since our other trips have been at spring break or Christmas, those were actually our least crowded trips we have taken and I would love to get back at that time of year again. Our schedule just hasn't worked out for it recently.

We have been several times at the end of May and the Beg of June.:thumbsup2
I think it is a great time to go!!

Crowds are very manageable and we have never had a ton of rain either. It is warm, but not so hot that I am uncomfortable and I love the later park hours and the pool in summer.:goodvibes

So far Winter has been mild and only 1 snow day..last day of school is as of now May 13th for us.

I booked us to check in on May 20th and hoping that WDW does another 24 hour kick off to summer that Friday before Memorial day weekend! Can't wait!:thumbsup2

We have done Memorial day week also and after the weekend things really calm down.

I say go for it!

DH and I honeymooned the first week of June in 2012 and the crowds were very manageable. The weather wasn't unbearable either. Hot, definitely, but normal hot. Not I-hate-my-life-right-now hot.

I think the current AP promotion might offer a clue - up to 37% discount on Deluxe and 30% discount on moderates for stays thru June 15th.
