oK, we got a reservation at SSR for the first week in December for a family member who decided after the fact to join us on our vacation. We still are on a waiting list for VWL for the same week for them because that is where we are staying. By accepting the SSR they took us off the First come First serve list for all the other resorts.

Our guests preferences went like this;

VWL
OKW
SSR

What are the chances that a studio will come through at VWL for the first week in December?

If you had to compare OKW with SSR, which is nicer? Which do you prefer? Based on the feedback we might get ourselves on the list for OKW again.

I would appreciate anyone opinions, as we have not stay at OKW or SSR yet, so we don't know what to recommend to our guests or what to tell them to expect. I have seem pictures, but that is not the same as real first hand opinions.

Thank you in advance for your help. :wave2:

VWL is our home resort and I absolutely love it there but our last trip we needed a 2BR and the only one available was SSR. We weren't disappointed. It was more spread out than WVL but the room was just as nice- just a different ambiance. The biggest difference for us was the restaurant - there is only one place to get meals at SSR and it's not a sit down restaurant- it's cafeteria style but higher end cafeteria. The food was good but nothing like the "show" at Wispering Canyons at VWL.
There was a pool right by our room which was on the other side of the 'lake' so it was a 10-15 min walk to get to the main section of the hotel where check in / store / spa and main pool were but it was a nice pleasant walk. If walking is a problem you can always drive around to the "front" of the resort, or request a room closer to the main building.

I've never stayed at OKW so I can't offer an opinion on that resort.

VWL is the smallest DVC resort, so the odds of something coming available there for the first week of Dec (one of the most popular times for DVC members) is very slim if not impossible.

A studio at OKW will have two queen beds. A studio at SSR will have one queen sized bed and one double sleeper sofa. Both of these two resorts are more spread out like a community rather than all in a single building like the hotel based DVC resorts. I like both OKW and SSR but we always get a one bedroom rather than a studio.

OKW has Olivia's (table service restaurant) and Goods to Go (limited counter service at the pool), plus the Turtle Shack which has seasonal hours (at the Old Turtle Pond pool). SSR has Artist's Palette (counter service and a bit more upscale in choices than most counter service, not your standard burgers and hot dogs) and Turf Club (table service). I think there is also a counter service of sorts at the new Grandstand area.

Well, VWL is probably the most popular DVC at Christmastime. Last year we made our 1st week of Dec. reservations for a 1BR at our 11 month window at our home, BCV. At exactly 7 months out, I went on the waitlist for VWL. Where did we stay? BCV. Our waitlist never came through. Here's hoping you have better luck. :thumbsup2

SSR is near and dear to my heart ever since it was the Disney Villas. I just
"discovered" OKW back in January and have fallen in love with it as well. You
can't go wrong! :thumbsup2

we were shooting for the first week of dec @ VWL, I could only get 2 days the 2nd and the 4th for that wee for a 1bdrm. We changed our plancs to the 2nd week of dec because i got a 1 bdrm @ SSR from the 10th-14th.

Thats a tough time at WLV...
busiest season.....

Since part of your group will be at WL.....
you might want to stay at SSR and request Congress Park.....

You could easily walk to DTD and hop a bus to the lodge....
Good luck with the waitlist..
Kerri
