First week of August?

I prefer 1st week of February, low crowds, cooler weather, but the kids have to miss a week of school. DS will be in Jr High next year, so harder to miss a week.
If all goes well my younger 2 (12 and 9) will visit their grandparents over on the gulf the end of July. So since we have to drive down to pick them up I wondering if the 1st week in August would be doable or just miserable?
When we went in '13, we rope dropped and the kids had a great time, but would have like to have spent more time, just chilling by the pool to. Since the parks close early (9 when we were there) we really had to be up early to get it all done. Is it possible, to wake up late, do the pool, until 2 and then head to the parks that are open till 10 or 12? I do realize we'd have to do rope drop for AK and Epcot since they don't seem to be open later in the summer.

We did the last week of July into the first week of August last summer and it was totally doable. Since we have a younger kiddo, we opted to RD and not do evening EMH, but I think the reverse could work too. As long as you plan your Fastpasses well, it is doable. Full disclosure, I am not bothered by heat so I am not a good person to tell you how it is from that perspective, but I find if you drink plenty of water and are in and out of attractions all day, it isn't that bad. It was crowded, but it sounds like it almost always is anymore so I wouldn't let that deter you either.

We typically visit either the 2nd or 3rd week of August for a two week stay. I would imagine the first week of our stay to be very similar to what you would experience the 1st week of August.

To that end, it is pretty crowded. Taking advantage of rope drop, and FP+ would be strongly recommended. Expect it to be hot, and probably wet at least for 30 minutes or so every afternoon.

However, with a bit of planning, it is manageable. We always have a good time, and always manage to do everything we want to do while we are there.

We were there last few days of July and first few days of August in 2014. It is no news flash to say that it was hot. However we toured all the parks fairly well, even doing some stuff in mid afternoons. I remember walking around the World Showcase one afternoon and having a great time seeing shows, exploring pavilions, and stopping for drinks/snacks. As far as crowds go, I don't think there is much dodging crowds anymore. No matter when you are there you just have to get up early for rope drop and be prepared for the inevitable onslaught of guests mid-morning.

Our last two trips have been in August. It's hot. It rains. We've done both the second and third weeks. The second week of the month was more crowded with later hours. The third week was less crowded with shorter hours. Both trips were fabulous. The heat doesn't bother me, but it will get to my husband and kids. There is just so many rides and attractions with fans blowing or in air conditioning that it doesn't seem that unbearable. The only time it was bad for me last August was waiting for the afternoon parade. We were in direct sunlight and were drenched.

I find August to be totally doable.

Have fun planning!
