I was able to snag a Poly standard view studio for the 3 nights we plan to stay in early November. We are traveling with my parents so I made that their room. I also was able to get 2 of the 3 nights we wanted in another Poly standard view studio. Since I still need one night and I don't see any more availability at the moment... I would need to do a waitlist for the one night. This needs to be completely separate from my reservation right? I wouldn't want to modify my reservation to include the 3rd night and continue to waitlist because then it will waitlist all 3 nights right?

Thanks for the help!

ETA - we are just at the 7 month mark for our check in date and the 3rd night would be 7 months from Monday..

Personally, I would waitlist just the one night. When you get it, call and have the existing reservations linked.

Another option would be to place a reservation for one additional one night with a currently available room or resort option as your "backup" so you are covered even if nothing ever comes thru, you can then select the option to replace THAT reservation with the new one night you prefer if it becomes available (so it is using those points, not additional points). Then link it to their other nights if it comes thru.

Someone might have a better suggestion than these - since you are in effect "walking" that last night... that gets too complicated for my head today lol.

Just wait list the one night. They are all or nothing so if you waitlist all three, then three have to come through which you don’t need because you have two already.

If it comes in, then just have MS merge. The other piece is to keep checking the website regularly. Things can and do change and sometimes if you catch it right, you can snag before the waitlist program runs.

Thanks for the advice. I thought that waitlisting the one night made the most sense because I definitely don't want to risk losing the 2 I found. I'm going to look at inventory Monday and try to book a room if available and put the waitlist in for the 1 night. I'll definitely keep checking to see if something pops up too!

Fingers crossed!

Another newbie waitlist question... we just got the school calendar for next year and found a long weekend that we could maybe head down for a quick trip. However, it's apparently the same weekend as one of the races and no studio is currently available for our dates.

I put in a couple of waitlists but there are a few 1 bedrooms available. If I grab one of them, will the waitlist automatically cancel that reservation if/when it comes through?

We would not have enough points for both reservations and I don't want to mess up our use years and accidentally borrow points from the next use year in the process.

You can set up the waitlist to replace it. You want to choose 31 days for it to expire. Any changes within 31 days to a room that is less points means you would end up with holding points..which are restricted.

If you didn’t set up your waitlists to cancel, then you can chat with MS and have them add that note…or, if you just set them up, cancel them and then redo them so you can choose to replace..we do it that way.

Be sure to screenshot the confirmation screen too so you have prod you wanted it replaced ,in case there is an issue

I'm not a new DVC owner, but I will be using the waitlist for the first time on my next reservation, and I definitely need some help. I have a VERY small contract (25 points), so I have to manage things very efficiently. :) This is my current contract breakdown (Aug UY):

17 banked points
25 current year points
25 available 2024 points

My stay will be two nights total. I am confident I can reserve the first night at my preferred resort at the 7-month mark, but not the second night. I will need to waitlist the second night.

The first night requires 24 points.
I want to create a 'backup' reservation for the second night at an alternate resort and setup the waitlist to replace that reservation if the waitlist comes through. The backup resort reservation requires 27 points.

If the waitlist comes through, the second night will require only 24 points. I am willing to let the waitlist stay until 7 days out and 'lose' the 3 points to holding if I have to (because I REALLY don't want to change resorts), but my banking deadline is only 14 days before the 2nd night reservation. I believe my best option is to use my points as follows to maximize the possibility of saving the 3 points in the event the waitlist comes through prior to 30 days before the reservation.

1st night reservation of 24 points should use 17 banked points, and 7 borrowed points.
2nd night 'backup' reservation of 27 points should use 25 current year points and 2 borrowed points.

IF the waitlist comes through before my banking deadline, then I would make the waitlist reservation with 2 borrowed points and 22 current year points, which would leave me with 3 current year points that could be banked (or transferred to my friend).

I have three questions:

1. Is this logic correct?
2. How in the world do I accomplish this? I tried making a test reservation, and I can't see any way to use borrowed points prior to using current year points with the online system for the 1st night reservation. I have to make the reservation at 5am Pacific online when the 7-month window opens - the first night will not be available by the time Member Services can be reached by phone. Do I need to borrow the points in advance of making the reservation? (I've never done that before - I've always borrowed at the time of the reservation.) If so, do I need to borrow the first 7 points, make the 1st night reservation, and then in a separate transaction borrow the 2 additional points prior to making the 2nd reservation?
3. If the waitlist comes through on the 2nd night, how do I get them to use the borrowed points before the current year points? Maybe they will use those first as a matter of practice?

Thank you so much in advance for any assistance you can provide!
