So my mom and I have never been on vacation before. We decided we would do this for our next birthday. She will be 50 and me 26. She hates heights and fast stuff and has a seizure disorder. I hate drops, heights and have a bad knee. So what things would you recommend we do? I want to make this extra special (and we will BOTH have birthdays when were there (August 30, September 1st). I have never been to the WDW before but have been to DL. Moms never been anywhere (or on a plane). She’s into history. She loves Pluto. I am into law, monkeys and OBSESSED with Tink. Any tips on how to have the best first vacation ever? Is it better to stay onsite or off? What other things are worth seeing in Orlando?

OMG! Congrats on the trip! your going to have soooo much fun!

Hmmm, recommendations! Let me see! Well, if your into Tink checkout Pixie Hollow in Toontown! It's very cute! your can meet tink and all her friends from the movie and books! The wait can be very, very long though so definitely check the wait time before getting in line! There is an area of monkeys at AK, they're very neat to watch!

Do you have any ADR's? You can meet Pluto at Chef Mickey's which is a very cool dining experience! You may also be able to meet him at the character breakfast at Tusker House in AK, but I'm not 100% sure! You can see him in MK in Town Square most mornings and you can also find him at the character connection in Epcot!

For a history buff definitely check out The Hall of Presidents in MK and The American Adventure in Epcot. World Showcase in general has a lot of really cool stuff!

Staying onsite is definitely worth it! Imagine you can leave everything in the outside world behind and be totally immersed in the magic that is WDW! :cloud9:

No matter what you do your going to have a great time! Enjoy!!1

whats better? Flying or driving? If we fly were gonna rent a car cause I want to go see Kennedy Space Center (mom loves space). Havent thought about ADR'S yet. How many days do you think it would take two adults who arnt big into rides to see all the important stuff? I know I want to get somthing to plan what we really want to see cause I know mom wants to swim with the dolphins and see Kennedy space center. Is there a book or somthing that has all the rides listed so we can pick what to do? Is there anyplace to get up close and personal with a monkey?

hey quick questioN, Which park has all the lands? Is there anything cool they do in each land for adults or anything cool to say you've been there? I remember passports from years ago for kids but what about old people? LOL. I know mom wants to visit every land and get her picture taken in each. I cant wait to have to make that scrapbook!

I recommend going to your local bookstore (Barnes & Noble or whatever) and picking up a copy of the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. It is quite a thick book and has tons of good info as well as descriptions of every ride, restaurant, hotel and thing to do at Walt Disney World.

By reading about the various attractions, it will give you a good idea which ones you may want to try. If something is scary, fast, spinning or whatever, it will indicate that. It also indicates what age groups typically like an attraction (preschooler, teenager, young adult, older adult, etc.) The restaurant section will indicate what is served, a basic price range (important if you are not on the meal plan), which meals have characters and so on. All of the resorts are described in detail also so that you can get a sense of whether one of them sounds like a place you would like to stay and whether it fits in your budget.

I highly recommend this book (as I'm sure many others on this board will agree). I have found many valuable tips and information regarding my own upcoming trip later this month.

Happy planning! I think you will find that there is much more for you to do at WDW than you imagined!!

Here is my 2 cents. Bear in mind I travel with kids, toddlers to teens. We always stay on site. We prefer the "perks" like extra magic hours. We only visit WDW, so we don't even bother with a car we use WDW transport exclusively. We also get the dining plan. I am not sure whether it saves us $$ or not, but we enjoy the facts that things are all taken care of ahead of time. We really only need to budget for souvenirs. We also enjoy the break sitting down to a nice meal offers. We have a nice table service dinner every day and we do a breakfast buffet every other day.

We stay at ASMu. We nned the suite, and he family suites are more than reasonably priced. If it were just adults then I think we would stay at the Poly, Contemp, or GF, but with 4 kids, like I said we need the suite, and the theming @ the values is very Disney.

The majority of rides are not thrill rides. I think the only ones you will have to avaoid, given your criteria are: MK The "mountains" Epcot Test track and Mission space AK Expedition Everest and maybe Dinosaur HS Tower of terror and Rock and roller coaster.

There are so many shows and all the other rides are tame. I would plan a nice dinner with your mom for her bay. We will be there for my sons bday and I am planning to order a cake for him to surprise him at the resturant. See the "cake chatter" thread on the restaurant board. Also check out www.allearsnet.com they have a lot of good info including the restaurant menus.

...and I 2nd the "Unofficial guide."
