Hi Everyone,

This will be our 3rd orlando/Disney trip. We are finally planning to do universal this time. I have two girls 10,7. We do love disney but this might be the last time we are able to pull the kids out of school in the middle of January to go during less crowds so we thought we should do universal as well. It is going to cost an additional $450 (estimate) just to do Universal for two days and of course after being at disney for 6 days it would cost us little to nothing to continue there. Is universal really worth it? How are crowds usually? I know very well how to navigate myself through the disney parks but I know absolutely nothing about universal other than the fact that I went to universal in california back in the 80s. :rotfl:

Thanks so much,
Debbie

Mid January is a great time to go. If your girls like Harry Potter, it is definitely worth a visit. I suggest you go through the website, www.universalorlando.com and take a look at all the rides to make sure that it will interest you guys. We absolutely love it.

I would suggest the website link Damo provided and also check out the Trip Reports board and YouTube for ride videos.

Thank you. I will check those out. Actually my girls could care less about Harry potter. We tried to watch the first movie with them (obviously we are behind) and it didn't hold my interest at all either. Maybe if I forced us to watch the other ones they would be interested. I'm not trying to put the movie down but so far it hasn't been our cup of tea.

I'm sure there are other things that would draw us in and I will for sure check the rides out. The girls think they are big roller coaster fans but they also think Big Thunder Railroad is a huge rollercoaster.

Thanks again,
debbie

You might want to read them the first book. It is a great parent/child experience when you read it together. There are two kiddie coaster that they will like. The Suess area is fun and there are things at Universal. Best bet, though, is to check out the website.

Mid January crowds are usually pretty small with an increase over Martin Luther King weekend. We love Universal almost as much as Disney. The Spiderman ride at Islands of Adventure is the best attraction in Orlando. The Sinbad show can be skipped if you need to watch your time.

Try reading the books.... I'm not a big fan of the first movies, but they get much, much better (and scarier) as they go on.
The books are way better than the films (IMO), try reading them together, I bed you'd enjoy it!

We did Universal and IOA in one day. We could have used two but you can cover the rides you really want to do in one day. I have older kids so they went their direction and we went ours. I agree Spiderman is great and so is the Mummy. The Hulk is awesome but intense. We Youtubed a lot of the rides because my youngest was not a big thrill rider. We had a blast at both parks.
