For a first trip to WDW I would schedule at least an 8 day trip, (my DH told me it was too short on that first trip back since our own kids were young) and make sure to plan plenty of Epcot and MK time. We find plenty to do in DHS so I would plan one day there. !Fantasmic is a good show, and you can book the package that allows vouchers to teh show with you meal. You are gauranteed a set with this package. I would plan one day at AK. Plan 2 days at the MK, but make sure that you are there in the evening one night because it is really pretty, and the nightime parade is nice. I think EPcot needs at least two days, and again, make sure you have an evening there. DInner and then Illuminations is fun. I also believe that Epcot will be celebrating the Flower and Garden Festival during May, so it will be gorgeous.
My family always finds our way to the Boardwalk, usually becaause we plan at least one meal in that area. We resort hop and hit all the shops. I suggest that you keep time open to check out the monorail resorts too. Maybe plan one meal at a resort and then stop at each one to visit.
If the construction in DTD dos not bother you, it is fun to visit there as well.
WE always get hoppers because we break up our days by going back to the resort to freshen up and relax before we head back out for the evening. If you are used to DLR and spend several days there easily, you really are going to be shellshocked at the size of WDW. The parks are not back to back, and they require transportation to get from one to the other. There is also so much more to do that is part of a WDW vacation, so if you can swing the days, plan at least 8. We shoot for 10 when we can, and that gives us time to have a vacation and relax throughout the trip.
